Governor Helder Barbalho held strategic bilateral meetings on Tuesday (9) with diplomatic representatives from India and Iran. The agenda of the meetings addressed essential issues for sustainability and economic development.

Barbalho highlighted Pará's role in environmental preservation. "Today, Pará has 75% of its territory covered by native forest and has been working very strongly to reduce deforestation," said the governor, emphasizing the State's relevance in the fight against climate change.

The discussion also included the upcoming COP30, scheduled to take place in November in Pará, which promises to bring global visibility to the region.

The importance of the State in the environmental agenda was recognized by the Iranian ambassador, Abdollah Nekounam, who emphasized that "if the world's population wants to have oxygen, it is important to cooperate with this State that is part of the Amazon rainforest." The ambassador also highlighted the transformations the city is undergoing to host the COP30 event, predicting success for the initiatives that will be presented.

Next, Barbalho received the Indian ambassador, Dinesh Bhatia, with whom he discussed strategic partnerships in the area of foreign trade. The governor reaffirmed that local biodiversity, combined with technological innovation, can promote a new economy. "Biodiversity transforms, through innovation technology, into a new economy," explained Barbalho, reinforcing the vision of a Pará connected to the global market.

Bhatia, for his part, highlighted India's need for agricultural products to meet domestic demand. "India has already proposed to be a natural partner because it needs everything that Pará produces. We are talking about various types of protein, beans, lentils. India mainly imports from Canada and Australia, but very little from Latin America. These products can be exported," he explained.
