Adepará invests in preventive actions to combat the Caribbean fruit fly pest in Pará
The Agricultural Defense Agency of Pará focuses on changing phytosanitary status, with recognition from the Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa)

Federal tax auditors from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and teams from the Agricultural Defense Agency of Pará (Adepará) are in the Lower Amazon region throughout this week to verify the actions carried out under the National Program for the Eradication of the Caribbean Fruit Fly (PNEMC). The work of Adepará is a national reference in combating the insect, and Mapa has already confirmed, in this audit, that there is no presence of the pest in the state territory.
In Oriximiná and Terra Santa — municipalities that have already reported occurrences of the pest — the points where traps for monitoring the insect are installed were inspected. Currently, there are 189 traps in these municipalities.

In the municipality of Oriximiná, Mapa and Adepará technicians met with representatives from the Secretary of Agriculture to present the procedures for verifying the traps and discuss the change of phytosanitary status of the pest in the region.
This stage represents the concluding phase of the process, mandatory to confirm the absence of the pest and the success of the actions conducted by Adepará. What has already been confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture and is expected to be officially recognized soon. The expected result is the change of phytosanitary status, a significant advancement for the fruit sector, strengthening production not only in Pará but throughout Brazil.

“The work aims to declare these municipalities in the Lower Amazon as eradicated areas for this pest. At the end of the month, the same procedure will be carried out in Curralinho, Breves, Portel, and Melgaço, in Marajó,” informed the Technical Responsible for the State Program for the Eradication of Fruit Flies, Agricultural Inspector Adalberto Tavares.
Priority Program at Adepará
Combating the Caribbean fruit fly is one of Adepará's priorities. The Agency has been adopting technical and strategic measures to mitigate the impacts of this pest on agricultural production. Among the main actions are: Continuous monitoring with georeferenced traps; Intensification of agricultural transit inspection in risk areas; Phytosanitary education campaigns with rural producers and society; and ongoing training of state agency staff.
The actions mentioned are aligned with the principles of Good Agricultural Practices (BPA). They foresee integrated pest management, traceability of procedures adopted in the field, and compliance with current legislation. This work has directly contributed to obtaining and maintaining the BPA seal, a quality differential adopted by Adepará in the actions of containment and eradication of the Caribbean fruit fly in Pará.
