The General Hospital of Tailândia (HGT), a unit that is part of the hospital network of the Government of Pará, is developing a series of educational activities focused on mental health and suicide prevention, in support of the Yellow September campaign. The actions encompass users, companions, and hospital staff, aiming to raise awareness about the topic and strengthen the care network.

The initiative was planned by the Psychology Service of HGT, in partnership with the Humanization Working Group (GTH). During the program, the health team received guidance on managing individuals with suicidal behavior, considering that HGT is an Emergency and Urgency hospital. Among the points discussed, the importance of empathetic, welcoming, and non-judgmental care was highlighted.

Speakers during the action included HGT psychologist Ícaro Tonin and the psychologist responsible for the initiative, Izabel Alves. She emphasized the progress in preparing the teams over the past few years. “Today, professionals are better equipped to welcome, listen, and assess each case. This is essential because we understand that mental health is complex and requires sensitivity in care,” she highlighted.

In addition to training staff, the campaign was also directed at patients and companions who were in the hospital's reception areas. Personalized guidance was provided on the importance of caring for mental health and preventing suicide. “We talked about the need to ask for help and not to face problems alone. Dialogue is always the first step to prevent the worsening of emotional situations,” the psychologist emphasized.

During the actions, printed educational materials and yellow ribbons, the symbol of the campaign, were distributed. Interactive dynamics were also conducted to engage patients with the topic. One of the most participatory activities was the “Message Box,” fixed to the walls of the hospital, where participants could take phrases of encouragement and reflection.

Approval - José de Almeida, 42 years old, who was waiting for an outpatient consultation with a surgeon, reported the importance of the campaign within the hospital. “While we wait, having access to this guidance helps a lot. Often, a person keeps everything to themselves and doesn’t talk about what they feel. These conversations show that it’s true we are not alone and that asking for help is always good,” said the user.

Data - Only in 2024, HGT recorded 7,311 psychology appointments, with 3,633 in the first semester. Among the services provided, highlights include care in the Emergency Room, inpatient units, as well as the promotion of therapeutic groups, support for bereavement, and assistance to families of hospitalized patients.

The General Hospital of Tailândia has 51 beds and maintains an Intermediate Care Unit (ICU) with nine beds, six for adults and three pediatric. Users of the Unified Health System (SUS) have access to the services offered by HGT through the Municipal Regulation Center, in addition to emergency and urgent care on a walk-in basis or referred by Samu, the Military Fire Brigade, and the Highway Police.
