Construction of the Maternal and Child Hospital in Marabá exceeds 70% completion
The unit will have 135 beds and will be a reference for mothers and children in 18 municipalities in the Carajás Integration Region

On the morning of this Saturday (13), during an agenda in Marabá, in southeastern Pará, to participate in the Cavalcade that marks the opening of the 37th Expoama, the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, closely inspected the construction of the Maternal and Child Hospital in the municipality, which is being built in Nova Marabá. The project, carried out in partnership with Vale, has already reached 73% completion and is expected to be delivered in 2026.
The new public facility will expand health care for mothers, babies, and children in Marabá and in 17 other municipalities in the Carajás Integration Region. The unit will be managed by the State Department of Public Health (Sespa).
The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, highlighted the importance of the project for the region. “Today (this Saturday, 13), during the opening of the Expoama Cavalcade, I took the opportunity to inspect the construction of the Maternal and Child Hospital in Marabá. The government of Pará is advancing in the construction of this unit, which is expected to be delivered in 2026. The entire region of Marabá and neighboring municipalities will have a modern hospital to care for mothers, babies, and children, ensuring more health and quality of life for our population,” he emphasized.
The state health secretary, Ivete Gadelha Vaz, also emphasized the importance of the unit. “The Maternal and Child Hospital in Marabá represents a significant advancement in maternal and child health care in southeastern Pará. With this modern and complete structure, we will be able to provide higher quality, humanized, and safe care for mothers, babies, and children from Marabá and neighboring municipalities. We are committed to ensuring that the delivery of the construction is marked by excellence in caring for life,” she assured.
Hospital structure - The hospital will have four floors (basement, ground floor, and four more floors), covering a total area of 12,000 m², with 135 beds: 86 in the infirmary, 30 in the ICU, 10 in the UCI, five for kangaroo mother care, and four for isolation. The surgical block will have three general surgery rooms and one surgical delivery room, while the Normal Delivery Center will have eight pre-delivery, delivery, and post-delivery rooms.
In the basement, there will be changing rooms, vertical circulation, technical areas, maintenance, and storage. The ground floor will house the Emergency Room, outpatient clinics, lobby, social areas, diagnostics, and administration. The 1st floor will accommodate the neonatal ICU, adult ICU, milk bank, laboratory, pediatric ICU, and support areas; the 2nd floor will be dedicated to the surgical center, obstetric center, and transfusion agency; the 3rd floor will receive the pediatric clinic, and the 4th floor will house the obstetric clinic, vertical circulation, technical areas, lobby, social areas, and cafeteria.

Care - The unit will provide emergency and urgent care services, hospitalization, and medical consultations, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic support services (SADT), including clinical analysis laboratory, imaging exams, and graphic methods. Except for pediatric and obstetric emergency cases, access to services will be by referral demand, with prior scheduling through state regulation.
Jobs and impact - Since the beginning of the construction in 2023, more than 200 direct and indirect jobs have been created, contributing to the local and regional economy.
With the construction of the Maternal and Child Hospital in Marabá, the government of Pará reaffirms its commitment to maternal and child health in the State, investing in modern infrastructure and humanized care to ensure more safety and quality of life for families in the region.
