Marabá Hospital Combines Technical Excellence and Care in Emergency Services
Humanized practices such as sunbathing, aesthetic care, and spiritual support reinforce care beyond formal protocols
The Emergency Service of the Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará – Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá, is a reference in the treatment of severe cases. The unit is recognized for its quick and safe assistance, combining advanced technology and humanized practices, ensuring care that restores dignity and hope to patients and their families.
The story of Margarida Jacinta, 83 years old, a resident of Piçarra in the Carajás region, shows the strength of humanization in the institution. Admitted in serious condition due to a respiratory problem, she was stabilized and welcomed by the team. During her 16 days of hospitalization, she experienced practices that combined technique and affection. "I arrived weak, but I received care. When they took me out to the sun and fixed my hair, I felt alive again," she said.
At 83 years old, Margarida Jacinta, a resident of Piçarra in the Carajás region, spent 16 days hospitalized and found in the hospital much more than treatment. Among technical care and gestures of affection, she experienced moments that restored her strength, spirit, and dignity.
Another example is Andreia Ferreira, a resident of Marabá in the Carajás region. She remembers a gesture of faith experienced with her daughter Maria Vitória, only two years old, who was hospitalized in the unit. The child received baptism while still in bed, in a simple ceremony but full of meaning. "It was an emotional moment because even amidst the pain, I felt that my daughter was surrounded by love and care," the mother highlighted.
The Emergency Service of the Regional Hospital has six beds, divided between the red room for patients in critical condition and the yellow room for severe cases. More than a high-complexity space, the sector is a symbol of welcome, combining immediate care with gestures that restore meaning and humanity to recovery.
Recovery Beyond Protocols
In the emergency service of the unit managed by the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), humanization materializes in practices such as sunbathing, aesthetic care, makeup, haircuts, and therapeutic walks. All are carried out in a planned manner and with medical authorization, respecting the clinical condition of each patient
According to the unit's nurse Crisila Reis, the proposal is to see the patient in their entirety. "Humanized practices show that it is possible to care for both body and mind. They renew spirits, reduce anxiety, and favor patient recovery, restoring dignity and hope in a delicate moment of life," she emphasized.
The professional adds that, aligned with the policy of comprehensive assistance, these practices complement hospital treatment, strengthen the recovery process, and reaffirm the hospital's commitment to combine technical excellence with care. "It is a care that goes beyond the protocol: it restores meaning, trust, and hope to patients," she concluded.
Flavio Marconsini, the hospital's executive director, emphasized that humanization is a guideline that permeates all assistance, reinforcing the commitment to comprehensive care. "Our mission is not just to treat but to welcome. Every action in the emergency sector is designed to offer technical quality and human warmth. This transforms the hospitalization experience, strengthens the bond with the team, and contributes to patient recovery," the manager stated.
