Porto Futuro receives new native plant seedlings as part of the Verdemocracia National Forum program
The Electoral Justice Forum discusses climate issues and the sustainability challenges of the upcoming elections

The second day of the Verdemocracia National Forum began at the Urban Park Belém Porto Futuro. Promoted by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) in partnership with the Regional Electoral Court of Pará (TRE-PA), the event discusses the challenges of Electoral Justice in the face of climate change, among other topics. On the morning of this Tuesday, the 16th, authorities gathered for a symbolic planting of 30 seedlings of native Amazon species at Porto Futuro.
Present were the president of the TSE and minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Cármen Lúcia; the also minister of the STF Cristiano Zanin; the president of the TRE of Pará, José Maria Teixeira do Rosário, and the presidents of all Regional Courts. From the State Government, Nilson Pinto, the president of the Institute of Forest Development and Biodiversity (Ideflor-Bio), the institution responsible for donating the seedlings, and Ursula Vidal, the head of the State Secretariat of Culture (Secult), which manages Porto Futuro, were present.

“Our Porto Futuro, this place so frequented, embraced, and cared for by our population, received today a symbolic planting of seedlings of Amazon species, reinforcing our commitment to increasing areas of vegetation cover. It reinforces our commitment to sustainability, with the carbon neutrality of events. The planting is part of the strategy to hold carbon-neutral events, compensating for the ecological footprint,” says the Secretary of State for Culture, Ursula Vidal.
“We understand that beyond increasing green areas, we are also sending a message to Brazil and the world about the commitment of the Government of Pará, the Regional Electoral Court, and the Superior Electoral Court, for an increasingly greener, more sustainable country, with climate justice and social justice,” concludes the secretary.
The goal of the Forum is to discuss the future and challenges of Electoral Justice in the face of climate change and technological transformations, focusing on planning and preparation for the 2026 Elections.

“It is an honor to receive here in the Amazon the authorities of our Superior Electoral Court, representatives from other States, all united in a gesture of great significance. On this soil, Electoral Justice reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, to future generations. By planting a tree in the heart of the Amazon, we contribute to a legacy of responsibility, unity, and care for the planet. May this be a milestone for a more vibrant Amazon and a more conscious Brazil,” says the host, judge José Maria Teixeira do Rosário.
“Here, in the heart of the Amazon, which represents for us Brazilians, for the whole world, we have the possibility and the urgent need not to allow devastation, planetary erosion, the conditions for us to live in health balance as stated in the Brazilian Constitution. For us to have an ecologically healthy environment, available to all, with equal living conditions, not only physiological, material, but also psychological, spiritual, living on a better planet. In the same terms, we need a sustainable democracy so that we can continue to be, always together, part of nature and not adversaries of it,” affirms the president of the TSE, Cármen Lúcia, who on this occasion planted açaí seedling.
On this occasion, the magistrate was gifted by the agency and the Institute Friends of the Amazon Forest (Asflora) with a samaúma seedling and revealed that the tree will be cultivated at the TSE in Brasília, bringing to the federal capital an emblematic symbol of the Amazon.
In total, 30 seedlings of pink and yellow ipe, mamorana, lantern tree, carolina tent, açaí, and pau-preto were used to beautify Porto Futuro, all produced in the institutional nursery of Ideflor-Bio. In addition to providing shade to the urban space, the species will further beautify the Park and provide food for birds, contributing to local biodiversity. The entire planting was conducted by the team of the Forest Chain Development Directorate (DDF), under the guidance of manager Laura Dias and environmental analyst Kássya Oliveira.
For the president of Ideflor-Bio, the gesture made at Porto Futuro transcends symbolism. “Donating a samaumeira to be planted at the STF is bringing a piece of the Amazon to the heart of Brazilian institutions. It is a reminder that caring for democracy and caring for the forest are tasks that go hand in hand, as both ensure the future of the next generations,” said Nilson Pinto.
The program continues with conferences and panels on topics such as the influence of climate crises on election logistics, sustainability in electoral practices, and combating misinformation. Activities will run until Wednesday, the 17th, at the Teatro Maria Sylvia Nunes, at the Estação das Docas.
