The Sairé festival begins this Thursday (18) and runs until next Monday (22), recognized as a national cultural manifestation that unites indigenous traditions of the Borari people, customs of riverine communities, and Catholic religious influences, in the village of Alter do Chão, in Santarém. This year the theme is "Cecuiara da Tradição."

For the conception, development, and execution of the artistic projects involving the festival, the government of Pará allocated R$ 1.5 million to Sairé this year. The support was provided through the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP) and the State Secretariat of Culture (Secult).

Through the Semear Program, R$ 1.2 million was allocated. "Semear is one of the main public policies for cultural support in Pará, responsible for financing artistic, cultural, and research projects throughout the State," emphasizes the president of the Cultural Foundation of Pará, Thiago Miranda.

Through Secult, R$ 300 thousand were allocated to strengthen tradition and ensure the celebration takes place

The State Secretariat of Culture (Secult) allocated R$ 300 thousand in support of the event, reaffirming its commitment to valuing cultural manifestations throughout the State. The funding strengthens local production and ensures the continuity of a celebration that unites faith, ancestry, creativity, and identity.

“The culture of Pará expresses itself vibrantly in every region of our grand State, and Sairé is one of the greatest demonstrations of this power. It is tradition, valuing our ancestry, creativity, and identity that make Pará's culture a reference for Brazil and the world,” highlights the State Secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal.

History - Sairé is considered one of the oldest cultural manifestations in Pará. The festival dates back to the 17th century, stemming from the blend between indigenous culture and the religiosity brought by the Jesuits in Santarém. Maintained by the community's memory, it preserves symbols, songs, and cultural expressions that traverse generations, consolidating itself as one of the largest celebrations in Pará.

Sairé 2025 - With the theme “Cecuiara da Tradição,” an indigenous expression that refers to birth, the passing of knowledge, and community living, in 2025 Sairé reaffirms its strength as a symbol of Santarém's identity. In addition to its cultural and religious dimensions, the festival boosts the creative economy and strengthens tourism in the region.

The official program begins this Thursday (18) and includes parades, traditional rituals, regional and national shows. On Saturday (20), the boto festival takes place with the competition between Tucuxi and Cor de Rosa. On Sunday (21), religious rites and a series of musical attractions are scheduled. The celebration concludes on Monday (22), with the falling of the masts, the traditional distribution of tarubá, and the tallying that determines the champion boto of 2025.
