The Integrated Center for Inclusion and Rehabilitation (CIIR), in Belém, held the "Green Day" program on Tuesday (16), in celebration of Amazon Day (9/5) and Tree Day (9/21). The initiative celebrated these environmental dates with users and collaborators, reinforcing the importance of sustainability and environmental preservation.

Denise Morais, President of the CIIR Sustainability Commission, highlighted the value of the action. "Amazon Day and Tree Day are fundamental moments for us to reflect on environmental preservation, combating deforestation, and the global impacts of this issue. They are also opportunities to encourage sustainable practices and protect the largest tropical forest in the world, as well as all the trees essential to life on the planet," said the professional.

Green Day Program

Storytelling about Tree Day, featuring the book The Giving Tree, engaged users and families

Throughout the day, CIIR conducted various environmental awareness activities, such as the 9th edition of the 2025 Reuse Fair, featuring handmade, regional, and organic products; Eco Point, focused on collecting recyclable materials; storytelling; composting workshop; seedling donations; and an ecological soap workshop.

Led by Denise Morais and Júnior Rodrigues, the ecological soap workshop attracted public attention. "It is gratifying to show how a normally discarded waste, like cooking oil, can be transformed into something useful and help reduce pollution," said Júnior, who works as an assistant in the Hygiene and Cleaning Service (SHL).

Users actively participated in the sustainable activities. For Luzinete Pereira, 33, mother of Lucas Emanoel, seven years old, who is assisted by the Autism Spectrum Disorder Care Center (NATEA), the experience sparked the expectation of finally producing sustainable soap at home.

"I liked the workshop because I had already researched online and tried to make it a few times, but it didn't work out. I ended up wasting materials without achieving the expected result. Now, in this sustainability activity, they showed us the finished product and the entire process. I already have the materials I will use at home and I intend to make the soap," Luzinete added, who participated in the workshop while waiting for her son to finish therapy.

Recognized Commitment

Plants at the Reuse Fair bring users closer to nature and encourage responsible environmental practices

The program reinforces a commitment that CIIR has maintained over the years. Since 2019, the institution has held the Gold Seal of the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, certifying the quality of its greenhouse gas emissions inventory, achieving certification for the sixth consecutive year. Additionally, it has held the Green Seal from the Chico Mendes Institute for four years, in the category of Responsible Socio-environmental Action, recognizing projects evaluated by rigorous criteria of environmental, social, and economic impact.

Among the highlighted projects are: Blue Guardian, winner of the Environmental Race at the Healthy Hospitals Seminar in 2024; selective collection; workshops on material reuse; production of ecological soap and soap; and the cultivation of vegetables in the Sensory Garden, a 1,640 m² space that combines therapeutic care and environmental awareness.

These initiatives complement community projects, such as the Garden with the Community, strengthening social integration and disseminating sustainable practices. Throughout its history, CIIR has also received the Honorable Mention Friend of the Environment, awarded by the Healthy Hospitals project, reinforcing its leadership in innovative solutions in health and sustainability.

Energy Efficiency and Environmental Impact

CIIR has made progress in energy efficiency by migrating to the free energy market. A comparison between June, July, and August of 2024 and 2025 shows a reduction of approximately 30% in electricity costs. The change goes beyond economic impact, strengthening the institution's environmental practices by reducing the emission of polluting gases and harmful waste to health.

By celebrating Amazon Month, CIIR reaffirms that protecting the environment is caring for life, strengthening its mission to integrate health, inclusion, and socio-environmental responsibility for building a fairer and more balanced future.
