Residents of São Domingos do Capim await the paving of PA-253
State government project materializes an old dream of the population that faced decades of difficulties with the precariousness of the highway

The paving of PA-253, in the section that connects BR-010 to PA-127, in Vila Perseverança, municipality of São Domingos do Capim, is in the final adjustments and already arouses great expectations among the population. For those who have lived for years with potholes, mud, and dust, the new road represents the end of a long period of difficulties and the beginning of a time of improvements. The official delivery of the work is scheduled for 3 PM next Saturday (20).
With a length of 15.29 kilometers, the section received earthworks, paving, base and sub-base, shoulder, and signaling services. The investment was R$ 29.1 million from the State Treasury and generated 130 direct jobs and 30 indirect jobs.

More than 32,000 people benefit from the new highway, which also connects the municipalities of Irituia, São Miguel do Guamá, Mãe do Rio, Aurora do Pará, and Concórdia do Pará. The transformation is already felt by residents like Antônio Alves, a 62-year-old autonomous worker who has lived for nearly two decades at the beginning of PA-253. Antônio Alves recalls the difficulties faced. “It was a great suffering, potholes, mud. Now we are happy, the suffering is over,” he said, moved by the change.

Rural workers celebrate the ease of travel
For the farmers in the region, the asphalt brings an even greater impact on their work routine. Francisco Antônio, 51, lives in the Carlos Flexa Community and assures that the new road will totally facilitate his life. “Before it took an hour to get to my land, I broke my motorcycle, it was very difficult. Now I arrive in 15 to 20 minutes. It improved 100%,” he said.

The guard José Lopes dos Santos, 49, also closely followed the transformation. He worked for a year on the highway construction and recalls the days of difficulty. “Our life was complicated, the road was ugly, when it rained it became a real mud pit. I have a motorcycle and now I get home very quickly,” said the worker.

Merchants also celebrate the great transformation on the highway. The skewer seller Juca Sodré, 55, has been working for 16 years with his daughter Ana Caroline, 19. He emphasizes the difference in the day-to-day of the business.
“With the dust it was bad, it dirtied everything and I had to clean all the time. Now that’s over, everything is easier. Before, it took us more than an hour to cross to the other side, now in 10 minutes we arrive,” he said.
Economic development and new logistics
The paving of PA-253 has a direct positive impact on the flow of agricultural production, especially of crops such as palm oil, açaí, and flour, strengthening the region's economy. The State Secretary of Infrastructure and Logistics, Adler Silveira, highlighted the importance of the work. “The paving of PA-253 represents a historic advance for São Domingos do Capim and neighboring municipalities. This is a work that goes beyond mobility: it guarantees dignity, development, and new opportunities for thousands of families who depend on this road to work, study, and produce,” he stated.

Other sections of the highway are also under construction, with more than 46 kilometers of paving each in Capitão Poço and Santa Luzia do Pará, totaling 113 kilometers of improvements.
The voice of the population shows that the delivery of PA-253 is not just the completion of a project, but the realization of an old dream, marking the beginning of a new chapter for São Domingos do Capim and the entire region.
