September Green draws attention to organ and tissue donation across the country, highlighting the importance of informing the population about the topic. At the Galileu State Public Hospital (HPEG), the Intra-Hospital Commission for Organ and Tissue Donation for Transplants (CIHDOTT) reinforces this awareness, especially in orthopedics, where bone grafts are used in reconstruction surgeries and trauma treatments.

"The CIHDOTT operates in an organized manner in the hospital, identifying potential donors, promoting educational actions with health professionals, and guiding families on the importance of donation. Our main mission is to facilitate the process of organ and tissue donation with ethics, safety, and transparency, ensuring quality and respect for the family's decision," explains Amanda Roberta, vice president of the commission.

September Green is a national awareness movement that seeks to expand the population's knowledge about organ and tissue donation, reduce prejudices, and encourage people to talk with their families about their desire to be donors.

"In orthopedics, it is possible to donate bones, tendons, menisci, fascia, and cartilage. These tissues are fundamental for reconstruction procedures, trauma surgeries, and oncological cases," details Amanda Roberta.

Among the challenges in raising awareness in society, she highlights the lack of correct information, fear of body manipulation, cultural or religious taboos, and the absence of family dialogue about the desire to donate.

"Bone grafts can restore quality of life, reducing pain, allowing the recovery of motor functions, and preventing amputations. They enable patients to return to daily activities with more autonomy and safety," states Amanda Roberta.

To support families in the authorization process for donation, the commission conducts a humanized approach, offering clear information, respecting the mourning period, and clarifying doubts. "Our goal is to show that the decision to donate can transform lives," concludes the vice president of CIHDOTT.

Galileu Hospital reinforces the invitation to society to reflect on organ and tissue donation, reminding that information, dialogue, and solidarity can save lives and promote quality of life for those in need.

For this donation process to begin, it is necessary for the donor to have informed their family about their wish to participate in this act of solidarity. Among the organs that can be donated are the heart, lungs, liver, kidney, pancreas, and intestines. The tissues include corneas, skin, bones, and blood vessels.

Profile - The unit, located on Mário Covas Avenue, is managed by the Social and Environmental Institute of the Amazon (ISSAA), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa).

Galileu Hospital has 104 inpatient beds and maintains services in orthopedics, reconstruction and bone elongation, trachea surgeries, and urological surgeries, such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, renal exclusion, and prostate biopsy screening.
