Regional Hospital of Marajó highlights the importance of organ and tissue donation
The program aimed at users, companions, and professionals also addressed the proper storage of medication used by renal patients
The Public Regional Hospital of Marajó (HRPM), in the municipality of Breves, promoted an educational action on Tuesday (23) in the Hemodialysis Sector, in reference to Green September, a national campaign for awareness and encouragement of organ and tissue donation. Celebrated on September 27, National Organ Donation Day reinforces the hope of life, symbolized by the color green, for thousands of people waiting in the transplant queue.

The action also included guidance on the proper storage of Alfaepoietin, a medication used in the treatment of anemias associated with chronic diseases, such as renal failure. Pharmacist Samara Graziela Silva explained that the correct packaging of the drug is essential to ensure its efficacy and safety, ensuring a better quality of life for patients undergoing dialysis.
With this initiative, HRPM reinforces its commitment to health education, the promotion of life, and humanized care, stimulating important reflections among users, families, and professionals.

During the activity, social worker Cristiane Oliveira highlighted the main objectives of "Green September":
- Raise awareness among the population about the importance of donation to save lives;
- Encourage family dialogue, so that the desire to be a donor is respected;
- Demystify the donation process, clarifying doubts and dispelling taboos, and
- Guide renal patients and families about the flow of living and deceased donors, and the benefits to the recipient.
Approval - Marilúcia Pantoja, 38 years old, participated in the action. She said she considers the initiative fundamental to bring hope to those waiting for a transplant. For those who have thought about giving up treatment, the support of family and the multidisciplinary team at the Hospital was essential to continue.
“I thought the action was great because organ donation can benefit many people who are hospitalized and waiting for a chance to live better. I have thought about giving up, but my brother encouraged me to continue, and today I see that we should not lose hope. Now, with the possibility of a transplant, we have more perspective on life. I am very grateful to all of you,” she added.
Regarding the guidance on storing Alfaepoietin, Marilúcia Pantoja shared that “before I didn’t know, and sometimes I even put it in the freezer, and the medicine would get hard. I learned that it cannot be stored in the freezer or in the door of the refrigerator, and that we need to leave it at the right temperature before applying it, because it cannot be taken cold. This guidance was very important for me.”
