In homage to National Deaf Day, celebrated this Friday (26), the State Bilingual School for the Deaf Prof. Astério de Campos, in partnership with the State Department of Education of Pará (Seduc), held the 1st State Meeting of Educational Practices from the Perspective of Bilingual Education for the Deaf at the auditorium of the Secretary's headquarters in Belém.

The event brought together students, teachers, administrators, and representatives of the school community to share experiences and strengthen inclusion in the state public network. Nationally recognized, Prof. Astério de Campos School combines the teaching of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) with the use of adapted teaching materials, promoting quality literacy while respecting linguistic and cultural diversity.

During the meeting, students and teachers shared their experiences. Student Cristiane Carvalho, from the Youth and Adult Education (EJA) modality at Astério School, stated that "studying at Astério is very good. I like it a lot. I have friends and I can learn in a way that values me as a deaf person."

Math teacher Sandra Nascimento highlighted the importance of this work. "It is satisfying to see the deaf person acquire knowledge and develop the ability to understand different life situations. This shows how much bilingual education can transform lives," she emphasized.

In addition to the pedagogical routine, the school implements programs from Seduc such as Alfabetiza Pará; Prepara Pará; Fluência Leitora; SisPae and Prova Saeb, always with adaptations in Libras, ensuring full participation of deaf students. It also develops cultural workshops, community projects, and activities that encourage student leadership.

The Special Education coordinator of Seduc, Denise Corrêa, highlighted the scope of the Secretary's actions.

"The Special Education Coordination of Seduc covers all our municipalities through specialized educational service. We have multifunctional resource rooms that serve over 14,000 students with disabilities in our network. We also have specialized centers, bilingual schools for the deaf, such as Felipe Smaldoni and Astério de Campos, and schools focused on visual impairment, such as Álvares de Azevedo. We always seek to promote accessibility and provide the best service to our students, ensuring not only the right to learning but also social, cultural, and family support, respecting each student as unique and singular," she emphasized.

With this initiative, the Prof. Astério de Campos Bilingual School and Seduc reaffirm their commitment to inclusive, equitable, and transformative public education, consolidating Pará as a national reference in bilingual education for the deaf.
