Government of Pará delivers in October the largest Sewage Treatment Station in the state
With an investment of R$ 134 million, ETE Una will benefit residents of 10 neighborhoods in Belém and contribute to the decontamination of hydrographic basins

The Government of Pará will deliver, at the beginning of October, the Sewage Treatment Station (ETE) Una, located in Belém. With over 23 thousand square meters of built area, the structure is the largest of its kind in the state and one of the most modern in the Amazon. The investment exceeds R$ 134 million and will directly benefit residents of ten neighborhoods in the capital of Pará, reinforcing basic sanitation actions in strategic urban areas.
ETE Una will be the main destination for sewage collected from the neighborhoods Marco, São Brás, Sacramenta, Telégrafo, Pedreira, Fátima, Umarizal, Reduto, Nazaré, and Campina. The system will enter the pre-operation phase shortly after the official delivery of the work.
Advancement in sanitation and quality of life
The work is being carried out by the Pará Sanitation Company (Cosanpa), with support from the Federal Government. According to the president of Cosanpa, Colonel Dilson Junior, the station represents a milestone for the sector.

“This is one of the most important works we will deliver to transform sanitation in Belém. With the support of the State Government and the Federal Government, we will expand the sewage treatment capacity, ensuring positive impacts on health, the quality of life of the population, and environmental preservation in one of the city's main hydrographic basins,” highlighted the manager.
Modern structure and national technology
The ETE Una system was designed with technology compatible with all stages required by Brazilian sewage treatment legislation. Sanitary engineer Susan Alves, the work supervisor for Cosanpa, explained the latest services performed at the construction site.
“In recent months, we have worked on the installation of large pipelines, some weighing over a ton, to interconnect the units, transport sewage between treatment stages, complete the Raw Sewage Pumping Station, and install the electrical systems of the unit,” she detailed.
The full operation of the system will ensure the removal of over 90% of the organic load from the collected waste, allowing for safe return to the environment and effectively contributing to the decontamination of the Una hydrographic basin.
Sanitation as a strategic policy
The delivery of ETE Una is part of the set of actions by the Government of Pará to expand basic sanitation coverage in Belém and prepare the city to host major events, such as the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in November.

Since 2019, the State has been investing in the requalification and macro-drainage of 18 channels in the capital, expanding water distribution networks and implementing new sewage networks, including in symbolic areas such as the surroundings of Ver-o-Peso and Avenida Visconde de Souza Franco, actions that are part of the legacy of COP30.
“The delivery of this system is a milestone for sanitation in Belém and integrates the various fronts of work of the State Government in the major hydrographic basins of the capital, promoting environmental protection, urban planning, and progress in meeting the goals of universal basic sanitation,” added the president of Cosanpa.
In the coming days, ETE Una will undergo an operational monitoring phase to ensure the proper functioning of the entire system, including the disinfection process and the quality control of the treated water.
