Santa Rosa Regional Hospital held the International Patient Safety Goals Olympics on September 24 and 25, in commemoration of World Patient Safety Day, celebrated on September 17. The initiative brought together professionals from the unit, students, patients, and companions in educational and interactive activities, aiming to reinforce the commitment to safer, ethical, and person-centered care.

The action was coordinated by the Patient Quality and Safety Center, in partnership with the Humanization Sector of the hospital unit. The program aimed to raise awareness about the risks associated with health care and highlight the importance of the joint action of professionals and users in preventing adverse events.

Students and users participated in educational stations

During the Olympics, patients, companions, and staff participated in educational stations focused on the Six International Patient Safety Goals. Among the topics addressed were the correct identification of the patient, effective communication among professionals, safety in the prescription and administration of medications, hand hygiene, and the prevention of falls and infections associated with care.

In addition to the stations, participants were also able to deepen their knowledge about the Clinical Deterioration Prevention Protocol and the Sepsis Protocol.

Interactive quiz promoted team engagement

As a highlight of the program, staff participated in an interactive quiz through the Kahoot! platform, which presented the main topics related to patient safety in a playful and dynamic way. The activity encouraged engagement, the exchange of experiences, and the strengthening of safe practices in the hospital's daily routine.

“The event provided a valuable opportunity for learning and relaxation, with scavenger hunts that stimulated interaction between participants and speakers. It is important to emphasize the relevance of the subject, as it ensures quality health care, aiming to prevent errors and harm that could be avoided,” said Lucas Silva, nurse at Santa Rosa Hospital.

Testimonials reinforce the importance of the initiative

Patients also approved the initiative. José da Conceição Negrão Rodrigues, 67, highlighted the learnings about the safe use of medications. “I thank you for the lecture and the importance of the goals for patients, especially for the clarifications about the proper use of medication,” he reported.

For Fernanda da Silva Celva, 33, who is undergoing treatment at the unit, the action reinforces good practices. “It is essential that the hospital encourages these actions. It is fundamental to emphasize the relevance of hand hygiene in all situations, as well as the correct identification of patients.”

Institutional commitment to quality care

The hospital's assistant director, Licia Lima, emphasized the team's involvement in the activities and the importance of the topic for strengthening the safety culture. “Throughout the program focused on patient safety, we had the chance to share experiences, reflect, and acquire new knowledge. More than the activities and topics addressed, what really mattered was the dedication and active participation of the team.”

Licia also reinforced that patient safety is a collective commitment. “Caring for safety is an attitude of responsibility, respect, and love for life. We remain committed to our mission of providing increasingly safe, efficient, and humanized care,” she concluded.
