On the morning of this Wednesday (01), the Government of Pará, through the Secretary of Racial Equality and Human Rights (Seirdh), promoted the appreciation of the elderly with the lecture "Silver October - Healthy Aging" at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) in Belém. The dynamic activity in homage to the International Day of Older Persons had the presence of about 50 participants, including elderly individuals, family members, caregivers, and community members.

With an interactive and welcoming proposal, the program provided moments of reflection, dynamics, and celebration. The lecture addressed topics such as physical activity, balanced nutrition, family ties, leisure, and the rights of older persons. One of the highlighted activities was the dynamic "Recipe for Longevity," where each participant contributes an essential "ingredient" for aging well, reinforcing the idea that longevity is built with joy, affection, and daily care.

According to Sílvia Tavares, manager of Elderly Protection at Seirdh, the action aimed to change the social perception of aging and value life experience by encouraging practices that ensure quality and dignity. "Healthy aging is made of small cares, great affections, and many joys. Let’s celebrate life in all its phases," she emphasized.

Awareness - Teodora de Lira, 79 years old, woke up early and was eager to participate in the program. According to her, the elderly should not become complacent, especially in cases of mistreatment.

"We should not be submissive, but rather speak out and report. This lecture was valuable because it also raises awareness about the suffering of our peers who do not receive help. Although today is the International Day of Older Persons, an important day for awareness, it is crucial that respect is constant. Youth needs to understand that one day they will also age. I ask that the youth treat the elderly with kindness and affection, for we are like plants: the seed germinates, grows, blooms, and eventually wilts. Thus are people. It is the natural cycle," she stated.

Silver October - In addition to strengthening family and community ties, the initiative also encourages the protagonism of older persons, reinforcing their rights and the importance of active aging. Silver October is a month dedicated to raising awareness about aging with fullness and social participation.
