China Day will be celebrated at Uepa, with free programming next Saturday, 4
The event will feature dance performances, martial arts, and Chinese cuisine, starting at 9:30 AM, at the Gymnasium of the Perebebuí campus in Belém

The Confucius Institute (IC) at the State University of Pará (Uepa) is promoting China Day next Saturday (4) in Belém. The event, held since 2019, is the most important of the IC and celebrates Chinese culture. The programming will take place at the Gymnasium of the Center for Biological and Health Sciences (CCBS), with free entry.
“This year, we will celebrate Confucius Day, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and 9 years of the Confucius Institute at our university,” explains Brazilian director Antonio Silva. He also highlights that the event has been growing over the years: “For example, in 2019 we had about 800 visitors. In 2024, we had the participation of more than 1,500 people. It is gratifying to see the number of families visiting the event, especially to learn about the culture of the Asian country. It is an opportunity for society to learn about China, as many know little or almost nothing about this great country.”

Antonio also emphasizes that the growth is not only due to the number of participants in the activities but also the interest of students who develop research for presentation to the public. “This has been a motivating factor for them to dedicate themselves more to the Mandarin course and learn about Chinese culture.”
For the programming, the audience will find “a journey through Chinese culture” where visitors can learn about the History of Silk; The Chinese and Marriage: Innovating Traditions; The Province of Shandong; A Tour of Chinese Cuisines; Confucius; Kuaizi, Chinese Cutlery; The Light of Shadows – Chinese Shadow Theater; Tai Chi; Traditional Chinese Medicine; Chinese Games; Pinyin; Chinese Calligraphy.

“In addition, the audience will have the opportunity to try Chinese fortune cookies and mooncakes. We will also have special performances of dance, martial arts, and Chinese music, and of course, a raffle of various prizes,” highlights Antonio.
