Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park, a milestone in Pará's environmental and economic policy

The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, will deliver, on the next October 7, at 4 PM, the most diverse technological development complex in forest bioeconomy in the world: the Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park. A structuring project of the State Bioeconomy Plan, the Park is already born as the largest bioeconomy hub in Latin America and as the only technological park in the world that uses forest bioeconomy and can serve traditional communities and bioeconomy startups.

Located in Warehouses 5 and 6 of the old port of Belém, in the Porto Futuro project, the 6,000 m² space positions Pará at the forefront of sustainable innovation, uniting science, technology, and traditional knowledge to transform Amazonian biodiversity into high value-added businesses.

“The Amazon Bioeconomy and Innovation Park is unique in the world. It is a legacy delivered not only to our population but on a global scale. We are showing that it is possible to reconcile socioeconomic development with environmental preservation, while creating job opportunities, strengthening forest businesses, and giving prominence to traditional peoples. This inauguration, on the eve of COP30 in Belém, is a demonstration of Pará's commitment to leading the transition to a greener, more inclusive, and sustainable economy,” said Governor Helder Barbalho.

“The creation of this Park represents a milestone in Pará's environmental and economic policy. Here we bring together science, technology, innovation, and traditional knowledge to transform and scale Amazonian biodiversity into sustainable solutions. Our priority is to ensure that this space is a meeting point for communities, researchers, investors, and entrepreneurs, so that we can generate income, strengthen conservation, and position Pará as an international reference in bioeconomy,” emphasized the Secretary of Semas, Raul Protázio Romão.

Starting this Tuesday (7), Belém gains a space that unites science, technology, and traditional knowledge

Structure and strategic axes - Warehouse 5, called the Business Center, houses the Center for Sociobioeconomics and the Center for Social Gastronomy. This space concentrates coworking areas, incubators, accelerators, meeting rooms, investment funds, innovation showrooms, event lounges, and the One-Stop Shop, which connects entrepreneurs to technological and productive solutions. The Center for Sociobioeconomics brings together the Living Laboratory, a co-creation environment among communities, startups, and researchers, and the School of Forest Knowledge, dedicated to valuing traditional knowledge and technical training aimed at sustainable management. The Center for Social Gastronomy promotes sustainable gastronomic experiences and values Amazonian food culture as an expression of sociobiodiversity.

In Warehouse 6, the Laboratory-Factory integrates the Innovation Center. It is a pilot plant equipped for Research & Development (R&D) and experimental production of food, cosmetics, and fine chemicals from forest inputs. In this same space are the R&D Management, responsible for articulating the network of partner laboratories and connecting research to the productive sector, and the Innovation Showroom, a showcase of green technologies and new bioeconomy products for investors, buyers, and partners.

Partnerships and investments - The construction of Porto Futuro, where the Park is located, is the result of a partnership between the Government of Pará and Vale, within the Pará Structure program. The total investment value of the Park was around R$ 300 million. The Park has, among its sponsors, the companies Natura, Ambipar, and Fundo Vale.

“The delivery of the Bioeconomy Park in Belém, in the year of COP30, is a milestone. Vale has been operating in the Amazon for 40 years and has a legitimate commitment to the region to contribute to forest protection and local socioeconomic development. This partnership with Semas and the creation of the Park reaffirm our understanding that strengthening bioeconomy is the way to keep the forest standing and generate income for communities through research, innovation, and respect for the peoples living in the forest,” highlighted Hugo Barreto, CEO of Fundo Vale and the Vale Cultural Institute.
