Experts will discuss sustainable telecommunications use in the Amazon at PCT Guamá
The initiative anticipates the discussions of COP30 and will address the advancement of satellites and connectivity
The Science and Technology Park (PCT) Guamá, in Belém, will host the event Pre-COP30 Dialogues: Spatial Sustainability on October 21, from 2 PM to 6 PM, bringing together national and international experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities of sustainable use of space and telecommunications in the Amazon. The registrations are free.
The initiative anticipates the discussions of COP30, which will be held in Belém from November 10 to 21, and gains relevance in light of the increasing number of satellite launches and the growing dependence on communication technologies for climate monitoring, security, and connectivity.
“The event brings together high-level experts to discuss the sustainable use of space, an essential theme to ensure equitable and responsible access to this common good of humanity,” highlights Agostinho Linhares from IPE Digital, the organizing institution of the meeting.
The program includes the launch of the book “In the Saga of Telecommunications and the Amazon,” by Juarez Quadros do Nascimento, former Minister of Communications and former president of Anatel. Published by Ponde Editores, the work will be launched at 6 PM in the auditorium of the Innovation Space at PCT Guamá, with a book signing session open to the public.
According to the author, the book arose from the encouragement of colleagues to record his experiences in the telecommunications sector, gathering memories of a journey that began at UFPA and developed in institutions such as Telebrás, the Ministry of Communications, and Anatel. The term “saga,” according to Juarez, translates the historical and narrative character of the work, which connects the past and the future by addressing themes such as the digital ecosystem, artificial intelligence, and sustainability, topics aligned with the COP30 agenda.
“The book records a journey in telecommunications and the Amazon, uniting memory and future around innovation, sustainability, and digital challenges towards COP30,” says Juarez Quadros.
The event is organized by the Guamá Foundation, the science and technology institution managing PCT Guamá, with organization by IPE Digital and support from PCT Guamá.
