The training reinforces HRAS's commitment to promoting health with quality and safety both inside and outside the unit

Educational actions expand the hospital's reach and strengthen the bond with the population of Icoaraci

The Dr. Abelardo Santos Regional Hospital (HRAS), in Icoaraci, a district of Belém, completed, this Tuesday (7), the first class of the Wound Dressing and Treatment Course. The training was aimed at residents of nearby communities who work as caregivers for the elderly, nursing technicians, and nurses who provide assistance to people needing specific care.

On this occasion, participants learned about proper care for wounds and burns, the correct use of dressings, and practical guidelines for prevention and treatment. "Many people apply techniques at home incorrectly due to lack of information," explained nurse Cleyton Metello, from the Skin Care Committee (CCP) of HRAS and responsible for teaching the course.

Poorly cared wounds can become open doors to serious complications, warn professionals

Among the examples discussed, the professional highlighted common practices that should be avoided. "Despite being widely publicized as wrong, it is still common to see people using toothpaste on burns, for example, which can worsen the injury. Similarly, applying coffee or other substances to stop the bleeding of a cut is a mistake that increases the risk of infection," he warned.

Cleyton adds: "Proper wound care is a fundamental practice in health assistance. Poor management can lead to complications such as infections, delayed healing, and increased hospitalization time. Therefore, the course aims to train these professionals and caregivers, strengthening safe care and reducing risks, as well as promoting more humanized and efficient care."

Training

The course is an initiative of the Humanization Committee (CH), in partnership with the CCP and the Permanent Education Center (NEP), and reinforces the commitment of the strategic management of the Social Institute Mais Saúde (ISMS), with the support of the Pará State Health Department (Sespa), to promote health education and disseminate good care practices inside and outside the hospital.

Training reinforces the importance of avoiding improvisation in injury treatment

For Leonardo Silva, a member of the CH, and Jamilly Silva, coordinator of the NEP, in addition to knowledge, the action helps bring the hospital closer to the community. "When the population has access to information, we can prevent complications and avoid unnecessary hospitalizations. The proposal is exactly this: to promote health education in an accessible and transformative way," they highlighted.

The unit's care manager, Adriano Furtado, concludes by stating that the initiative shows that the hospital's role goes beyond assistance within our walls. "This training contributes to a safer care network. This directly reflects on the quality of life of those being cared for by them and reinforces our commitment to promoting health at all levels," he emphasized.
