Governor Helder Barbalho presented the Parque da Cidade to the Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, the venue that will host the discussions of COP30. The technical visit toured the park's leisure area — with sports courts, a multipurpose gym, a water park, a children's playground, and a skate park — and the buildings of the Creative Economy Center and the Gastronomic Center, from where it was possible to see the temporary modular structures already set up for the event taking place in November. During the meeting, the State and the Union discussed the integrated security plan for the conference period.

Accompanying the agenda were Olmo Xavier, director of Infrastructure for COP30; Fernando Ribeiro, president of the Court of Accounts of the State of Pará; Ualame Machado, Secretary of State for Public Security and Social Defense; and Alexandre Andrade, superintendent of the Federal Police in Pará.

“Today, I am receiving the Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, who is accompanied by the Federal Police, with his staff to learn about all the actions being taken to prepare the Blue Zone and the Green Zone, where the moments of COP30 will take place. We are also holding a discussion with local security forces regarding the security and contingency plan that can, obviously, leave the entire city prepared for this event moment in which we will have the demands of daily life, but also the population increase and all the necessary diplomatic protocols for Belém to be ready for this great moment,” said Governor Helder Barbalho.

Minister Ricardo Lewandowski praised the progress of the structures' assembly and the coordination among the parties. “I was impressed with the advancement of the facilities, absolutely unparalleled in terms of organization, aesthetics, and functionality. Brazil can be proud of the COP we are going to offer. Everything is very well prepared, extremely organized, with synergy among state, federal, municipal authorities, and even the UN. There is no weak point,” he said.

“We can expect that this COP will be one of the best ever held,” concluded the minister.

Parque da Cidade: legacy in operation and final preparation for the conference

Inaugurated in June for public use, the Parque da Cidade hosted a public summer camp until August that served ten thousand children, teenagers, and elderly people. In less than two months of operation, the space received more than 670 thousand visitors, establishing itself as a new leisure and socializing hub in Belém.

Established in the area of an old airport, the park occupies 500 thousand m² and features an extensive green area with over 2,500 trees. Since August 18, the location has been closed to the public and under the responsibility of the federal government and the UN for the installation of temporary structures for the negotiation pavilions and the plenaries of the Blue and Green Zone, the final preparation stage for COP30.
