Patients and companions from the oncology sector of the Dr. Waldemar Penna Regional Hospital of Baixo Amazonas (HRBA), in Santarém, western Pará, participated last Wednesday (8) in an informative and educational moment about breast cancer prevention and combat, in reference to the Pink October campaign.

Mislene Moraes, 46 years old, accompanies her son during treatment at the unit. She approved the action held in reference to the Pink October Campaign. "People need to be aware that it is necessary to undergo treatment and follow-up to avoid further complications. I will be able to advise other people; I cleared my doubts. And this interaction between patients and the medical team, nurses, and technicians is very important for patients undergoing treatment. It is very important," said the social worker.

"This moment of speaking directly with our patients and companions is very important. We exchange experiences, talk about the importance of self-care, and the need for mammograms. We believe that the more these users are guided, the more they will disseminate this information at home, spreading the importance of breast cancer screening to more people and ensuring that the information reaches those who need it," explained oncologist and hematologist Kalysta Borges from the Regional Hospital.

The action included the participation of the group "Victorious Women," formed by patients and former patients of HRBA, who promote a support network for women undergoing oncological treatment. "I am here today talking about the prevention of a disease that I have already had, treated, and managed to overcome. So, it is a message that encourages and is very important to pass on to more women. Seeking diagnosis is essential for starting treatment as soon as possible, and we also need to be well to continue this process and share this information with more people," highlighted Raliene Pereira, one of the group's coordinators.

"Diva Day" at HRBA

At the beginning of the week, hospitalized patients in the hospital's oncology clinic received visits from young volunteers, who brought words from the Gospel and religious songs in a moment of reflection and awareness.

On the 3rd of this month, the campaign included an opening ceremony at the unit's chapel and then the "Diva Day," with services such as haircuts, eyebrow design, makeup, and massages for collaborators and users.

"For us, the Pink October campaign is very important. That is why we have a vast program related to cancer prevention and combat, promoting moments of care for women, relaxation, and, above all, information.
