Pará records the lowest deforestation alert index in the last eight years for the month of September
The state accumulates a reduction of 80% compared to 2023 and consolidates a downward trend in areas under alert, reflecting the integrated actions of environmental command and control.
In September 2025 (Prodes Year 2026, which covers the period from August 2025 to July 2026), Pará recorded the lowest value of areas covered by deforestation alerts in the last eight years for the same month, with 107 km².
The data represents a reduction of 47% compared to September of the previous year (202 km²) and consolidates an 80% decrease compared to the same period in 2023 - the highest peak in the analyzed series, according to data from the Real-Time Deforestation Detection System (Deter/Inpe), which is part of the official monitoring infrastructure of the Brazilian Amazon rainforest.
The technical assessment confirms the trajectory of continuous reduction between 2023 and 2026. The result demonstrates the direct impact of the integrated actions of inspection, monitoring, and environmental management conducted by the Government of Pará.
In the priority municipalities for prevention and control actions, the reduction was even more significant: a decrease of 56% between 2024 and 2025, from 118.96 km² to 52.16 km².
The main reduction figures were observed in Altamira (-90%), Novo Progresso (-93%), Itaituba (-67%), Pacajá (-63%), and São Félix do Xingu (-55%).
Governor Helder Barbalho emphasized that the result reflects the strengthening of environmental governance and Pará's commitment to protecting the Amazon.
“Pará is showing that it is possible to develop with environmental responsibility. This significant result is the fruit of integrated work among state agencies, command and control actions, and the intensive use of technology to monitor and curb deforestation. In this way, we are consolidating Pará as a reference in environmental management and climate change mitigation in the Amazon,” said Helder.
Considering the accumulated data from August and September, Pará reduced the areas under alert from 394 km² in 2025 to 181 km² in 2026, representing a decrease of 54% and consolidating the third consecutive year of reduction.
The Secretary of Semas, Raul Protázio Romão, highlighted that the advances result from the coordinated execution of programs such as the State Plan Amazon Now (PEAA) and the Curupira and Amazon Alive operations, which strengthen the fight against irregularities and the protection of territories.
“We are consolidating a new model of environmental management, based on territorial presence and integration among the responsible agencies. The result is a Pará that advances in inspection and combat, with efficient monitoring and consistent reduction of deforestation rates,” Raul stated.
Close to hosting the world's largest climate conference, COP 30, which will be held in Belém, the numbers reinforce Pará's role as a protagonist in the country's environmental agenda, strengthening public policies aimed at transitioning to a green economy that values the living forest and the sustainable use of resources.
