The State Traffic Department (Detran) has been certified with the Bicycle Brazil 2025 Seal, granted by the Ministry of Cities. This recognition is part of the Bicycle Brazil Program (PBB), which aims to promote and publicize practices that encourage bicycle use in urban areas, fostering sustainable mobility and quality of life in cities.

Detran Pará is the only state traffic agency in the Northern Region to secure the Bicycle Brazil 2025 Seal, reinforcing the state government's commitment to public policies focused on sustainable mobility, safety, and valuing cyclists as an essential part of traffic.

The seal places Detran in the national network of institutions committed to promoting bicycle use

“Receiving the Bicycle Brazil 2025 Seal is a recognition of the continuous work that Detran Pará has been developing to promote more sustainable and safe mobility. This seal reinforces our commitment to public policies that encourage bicycle use, value cyclists, and contribute to a more humane and accessible traffic,” highlighted Renata Coelho, general director of Detran-PA.

Established in Ordinance No. 549, dated June 12, 2024, the seal is valid for one year and is granted to public and private institutions that develop actions aimed at promoting cycling transport. Certified entities become part of a network of institutions committed to encouraging bicycle use as a means of transport, enhancing the exchange of experiences and strengthening active mobility policies in the country.

Detran was recognized for its continuous work in promoting traffic safety and education, with a focus on actions aimed at respecting cyclists and sustainability. Among the initiatives evaluated by the Ministry of Cities are cycling tours and educational actions carried out in various municipalities, which encourage bicycle use as a healthy and sustainable means of transport, as well as bicycle giveaways during events to promote modal adherence.

The agency's work with school-aged children and adolescents was also considered, through lectures and immersive experiences at Detranzinho — an educational mini-city located at Detran's headquarters — and with the Itinerant Mini Circuit Truck Project, which brings traffic education to the interior of the state.

On National Cyclist Day (August 19), Detran held a large educational action on the bike lanes and cycle paths of Belém, in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Security, Public Order, and Urban Mobility (Segbel). The initiative reinforced respect for cyclists and the importance of sharing public space safely. During the approaches, Detran agents guided the public on sustainability and safety, in addition to distributing trash bags, reflective cords, and safety whistles.

Celina Koury, Traffic Education Coordinator

According to the Traffic Education Coordinator, Celina Koury, the recognition is the result of a collective effort from the entire Detran team. “The national recognition shows that Pará is on the right track. Our education and awareness actions prioritize the safety of all road users, especially the most vulnerable, such as cyclists and pedestrians. This seal is an incentive for us to continue investing in initiatives that align with sustainability and urban mobility,” she emphasized.

The director of the Pará Cycling Federation and coordinator of the Union of Bike Coordinators of Pará (UCBPa), Arnaldo Villar, also celebrated the achievement. “It is with great honor that we receive the news that Detran-PA has been awarded the Bicycle Brazil Seal. This initiative recognizes and publicizes good practices that encourage bicycle use and improve urban mobility. Detran has proven to be an important partner of Pará cycling, with actions focused on safety, signaling, support for events, and encouragement of cycling tourism and traffic education,” he stated.

The certification of the Bicycle Brazil 2025 Seal occurs at an important moment of discussions about environmental sustainability throughout Brazil, reinforcing the importance of initiatives aligned with sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UN SDGs are 17 interconnected global goals adopted in 2015, focusing on ending poverty and protecting the planet while ensuring peace and prosperity for all by 2030.

With this recognition, Detran consolidates its position as one of the most committed traffic institutions to sustainable mobility in the Northern Region, reaffirming its role in building a safer, more accessible, and environmentally responsible future for all.
