On the morning of this Thursday (16), the Arena Guilherme Paraense gym, the Mangueirinho, hosted a special rhythm class in honor of Pink October, promoted by the government of Pará. The free initiative is part of the Sports and Leisure Workshop for the Community, conducted by the State Secretariat of Sports and Leisure (Seel), which takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with classes in futsal, volleyball, pilates, dance, and functional training.

The program included a lecture on breast cancer awareness, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, followed by the "aulão," which had more than 150 female students.

The Seel secretary, Cássio Andrade, emphasized the initiative. “Pink October is a moment to reinforce care and attention to women's health. Promoting a class like this, which encourages physical activity while raising awareness about prevention, is a way for Seel to contribute to the quality of life and self-esteem of women from Pará,” said the secretary.

Retiree Cristina Alcântara highlighted the importance of the workshop and the initiative of the Government of Pará. “I am enjoying it, I started last month and it is very good, I see that there are many elderly ladies who have a lot of fun and it is very good for us, for our health. The most important thing is that it is free, as many people cannot afford to pay for a gym. Here is a safe place, it is an integration, it is joy, it is good for health, we have to move, and I hope this project does not end,” she said.

Pink October

Pink October is an international awareness movement about breast cancer, created in the early 1990s when the pink ribbon was launched by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation and distributed to participants of the first Race for the Cure, held in New York (USA). Since then, the campaign has been promoted annually in various countries.

Objectives of the movement
The main objectives of Pink October are to raise awareness and educate about breast cancer prevention. It promotes the importance of undergoing mammograms and other preventive exams, which can detect cancer in its early stages, increasing the effectiveness of treatment and chances of cure.

Importance of mammography
Mammography is a fundamental radiological exam in the early detection of breast cancer. Studies indicate that regular mammography can reduce breast cancer mortality by up to 30% in women aged 50 to 69 (Source: INCA). Recommended starting at age 40 or as advised by a doctor.

Special lighting

As part of the awareness actions, the Olympic Stadium of Pará, Journalist Edgar Proença — the Mangueirão, will be illuminated in pink on the night of this Thursday (16), starting at 6 PM, in tribute to the campaign for prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer.

These initiatives reinforce the commitment of the government of Pará to disseminate essential information about women's health and encourage preventive care, contributing to the reduction of cases and promoting a better quality of life.
