The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Social Assistance, Labor, Employment and Income (Seaster), delivered, on Thursday (16), the occasional benefit to eight families residing in the Metropolitan Region of Belém. The aid is intended for people in situations of temporary social vulnerability or victims of disasters and public calamities. The delivery of the bank orders took place at the Seaster headquarters in the Nazaré neighborhood of Belém.

Occasional benefits are provided for in the Organic Law of Social Assistance (Loas) and are offered to citizens and families who do not have the means to face adverse situations on their own, such as death, temporary vulnerability, or public calamity, which compromise human dignity. The benefit is granted, on average, for three months, in an amount equivalent to one minimum wage per month.

For Vera Lúcia, a resident of the Tapanã neighborhood, the aid arrived at a time of extreme difficulty for her family and represents a new beginning after the loss. “The fire occurred there in Tapanã, where my family and six other families were affected. Among them, I lost my father, who died trying to save the belongings of the house. We can only be very grateful for this benefit, which will help us rebuild at least half of the things we lost. On behalf of the Lucas family, thank you,” she said emotionally.

In 2024, the Government of Pará allocated more than R$ 238 thousand in benefits to families affected by disasters throughout the State, with about R$ 74 thousand for the Metropolitan Region of Belém. The action, carried out by Seaster, reinforces the commitment of the Government of Pará to increasingly humanized, efficient, and present social assistance, ensuring dignity and support for families in vulnerability.

Beneficiary Patrícia Correia, one of those covered by the action, also reported the importance of the aid at this difficult time. “The fire completely destroyed my house in July. I lost everything and, at the moment, I am unemployed. The payment of the benefit arrived at a good time, as we are going through a very complicated moment. I can only thank you for helping me,” she highlighted.

“Seaster continues to work tirelessly to implement actions aimed at social protection throughout Pará, strengthening the assistance network and ensuring that public policies effectively reach all families most affected by calamity situations,” emphasized Valdo Filho, Deputy Secretary of Social Assistance at Seaster.
