The Land Institute of Pará (Iterpa) delivered land ownership titles to 140 families in Ourém, in the northeastern region of Pará, this Friday (17). The action was led by Governor Helder Barbalho, who is on a work agenda in the region to deliver works and services.

“Today, here in Ourém, we are delivering the expansion and urbanization of the municipality's waterfront, making this environment better and more beautiful, which strengthens the economy, commerce, leisure, and tourism in the city. Also benefits such as checks from the housing program Sua Casa, from Cohab, and land ownership titles. It is work in partnership with the municipality so that Ourém can be better and better,” said the governor.

Since 2019, more than 50,000 families have benefited from land regularization in Pará in both urban and rural areas of the State. Iterpa was responsible for issuing more than 40,000 titles in rural areas, while the Housing Company of Pará (Cohab) delivered about 10,000 titles of land regularization throughout the State, in urban areas.

The delivery in Ourém benefited several communities in the municipality, including the villages: Arioré, Arraial do Caeté, Conceição, Cachoeirinha, Riacho, Engenho Novo, Fátima, Limão, Patauateua, Puraquequara, Tracuateua, and Tupinambá. From 2019 to 2025, 548 land titles have already been delivered only in Ourém.

The farmer Geovana Reis received the document for her house and emphasized that she now feels like the owner of the land she lives on. “It’s a very good security because now no one can take the place where we live. I am at peace,” she said. For Manoel Francisco dos Santos, also a farmer, the document is synonymous with many other benefits. “The days were harder because without the document for our land we couldn’t even apply for rural retirement. Now I know that my children who work with me will be able to retire more easily,” he said.

One of the advantages that farmers and/or rural producers who receive land titles have is the right to recognition of their properties and thus access to a series of programs that can promote their activities, such as rural credit. Land regularization also provides access to public policies such as the National School Feeding Program (Pnae) and the Food Acquisition Program (PAA), among others. The property title issued by Cohab also guarantees other benefits beyond ownership, such as access to credit lines and housing benefits like the Sua Casa Program.
