In celebration of World Food Day, celebrated last Thursday (16), the Regional Public Hospital of Marajó (HRPM), in Breves, held an educational action aimed at promoting healthy eating habits among users and companions of the unit. The activity, organized by the Nutrition and Dietetics Service (SND), included the distribution of fruit on skewers and nutritional guidance with a humanized approach.

The purpose of the action was to raise awareness among the public about the importance of balanced food choices in daily life, contributing to the prevention of diseases and improving quality of life, both inside and outside the hospital environment.

“It is a moment of awareness about the importance of healthy eating in people's lives, whether they are sick or not. Taking care of food is taking care of health,” said nutritionist Renata Feio, technical manager of the SND at HRPM.

Practical guidelines for everyday life

During the action, the multiprofessional team highlighted simple guidelines that can have a significant impact on the health of the population. Among the main recommendations are:

  • Increase the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables;
  • Reduce sugar intake;
  • Avoid ultra-processed foods;
  • Prioritize water intake throughout the day;
  • Cultivate the habit of eating with attention, pleasure, and tranquility.

“We made a symbolic delivery of fruits accompanied by cards with messages encouraging habit change. We talked to patients about the importance of healthy foods and how nutrients can be true allies in the healing process,” reinforced Renata Feio.

Food and care

Housewife Francisca Nunes, 62, participated in the action and highlighted the quality of the meals offered at the hospital, as well as the care received since her hospitalization.

“It is a very important day that makes us reflect on our eating habits. Here at the hospital, the food is great, very varied, made with great care and very healthy for all patients. I feel happy and satisfied to eat something that will do me good,” she stated.
She also made a point of praising the multiprofessional team at HRPM:

“I am very grateful to God for the referral until I got here. Since the day I was admitted, I have been very well treated by everyone. I have great respect for the hospital professionals because they do their work beautifully and lovingly.”
