Technology Composes Treatment for Children Hospitalized in the Pediatric ICU of HRPM
The use of electronic devices to display movies and children's programs during hospitalization helps reduce stress and anxiety in patients

At the Regional Public Hospital of Marajó (HRPM) in Breves, care goes beyond clinical procedures. In the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the facility, a simple initiative has been making a difference in the recovery of young patients: the use of tablets with movies, cartoons, and games during hospitalization.
Amid the sounds of equipment and the intense routine of the sector, technology has become a bridge for comfort. "The use of this technology during the hospitalization period helps reduce the stress, anxiety, and fear that often accompany children in intensive treatment. By watching a movie or playing an educational game, the child can relax and distract themselves, which helps to lessen the feeling of pain and discomfort during procedures. Additionally, the leisure moment helps to restore the lightness of childhood, even within the hospital environment," explained the nurse and nursing supervisor of the hospital's ICUs, Jader Aguiar.
The strategy also positively impacts the care provided. With more tranquility, patients collaborate better with the team during procedures such as dressings and punctures, strengthening the bond between professionals, children, and families.
Approval - The boatman Manoel de Jesus Dias Bia, 40, accompanies his son's treatment, who is hospitalized in the Pediatric ICU of HRPM. For Manoel, the use of the tablet with cartoons and children's content has been an important ally during the hospitalization period.
"In my opinion, my son is much better behaved while watching. Without a tablet like this, the child feels alone, right? But when he is watching cartoons, he is much happier. It's like at home: when he comes back from school, he runs to the DVD to watch. Here it's the same thing; he gets attached and becomes calmer," he reports.
Data - Between January and September of this year, HRPM recorded 461 pediatric admissions and 1,496 consultations in pediatrics and neonatology, numbers that reinforce the unit's commitment to the comprehensive care of Marajoara children.
