The partnership between Hemopa and Uepa transformed learning into an act of love.

The Pará Center for Hemotherapy and Hematology Foundation (Hemopa) held a blood donation campaign on Tuesday (21) at the campus of the Center for Biological and Health Sciences (CCBS) of the State University of Pará (Uepa) in Belém. The action mobilized students, teachers, and staff in a gesture of solidarity and citizenship that helps save lives.

The initiative was part of the Integrated Health Activity course in the Biomedicine program and was organized by the freshmen of the 2025 class in partnership with Hemopa. The action reinforces the hemocenter's commitment to decentralizing its collections and raising awareness among new audiences, bringing the act of donating closer to the academic environment.

Professor Paula Frade from the Biomedicine course at Uepa emphasized the importance of the partnership. “From the beginning, Hemopa has been our partner, providing training in donor recruitment and hosting our students for technical visits. We also held an educational moment and blood typing, in addition to campaigns in classrooms and social media. It is very gratifying to see the students' engagement in such an important cause, which promotes social responsibility and the training of more humanized health professionals,” she stated.

The course coordinator, Professor Mônica Maximiano, highlighted the alignment between theory and practice provided by the activity. “It was a perfect match. This semester, the students are studying hematology and hemotherapy, so the theme fit naturally. We had moments of awareness, guidance, and now the collection. It is a partnership that strengthens the course and reinforces this act of love for others,” she evaluated.

For Hemopa, the approach to universities is an essential strategy to encourage regular donation. The social worker from the Donor Recruitment Management (Gecad), Marcela Silva, emphasized the positive impact of the action. “This partnership is of utmost importance for maintaining the blood stock and decentralizing our actions, bringing donation to the academic community. The effort and dedication we are seeing today will help maintain the supply, especially during this challenging period leading up to COP30,” she pointed out.

José Riquelme – Public Health student at Uepa. “A simple gesture that can help many people.”

Among the donors, Public Health student José Riquelme shared that he started the habit from a Hemopa campaign held at Uepa in 2022. “I started donating because of an action here at the university and, since then, I have maintained the commitment to donate regularly. It is gratifying to know that with a simple gesture, we can help many people, even without knowing who will receive the blood,” he reported.

Clara Liz – Nursing student at Uepa. “Donating is a way to save lives and raise awareness among others.”

Nursing student Clara Liz also participated in the campaign and reinforced the importance of engaging in the cause. “This is my second donation. I do this because I know I can save lives. It is essential that more people become aware and participate because donating is a simple gesture that can make all the difference,” she stated.

With actions like this, Hemopa continues to expand the reach of voluntary blood donation and strengthen the culture of solidarity in Pará. Partnerships with educational institutions have been fundamental in raising awareness among young people and ensuring safe stocks to meet the State's hospital network.
