The Santa Casa do Pará Foundation received, for the third consecutive year, the Patient Safety Seal, awarded by the Brazilian Institute of Patient Safety (IBSP) and Epimed Solutions to health institutions that promote good practices for patient safety. The certification recognizes that the Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará Foundation (FSCMPA) has been meeting safety criteria that range from notification to seeking solutions for incidents and adverse events, as detailed by Epimed's commercial manager, Thaynara Barros.

"It is a seal that emerged through a partnership between Epimed and IBSP, which aims to certify those institutions that act in accordance with RDC36, regarding notification, classification, handling, investigations, and quality management of incidents. All this management is done through the Epimed system, and we established criteria for this certification, with a categorization percentage of notifications as another nature below 25%, early detection within less than 7 days, and investigation within a period of less than 45 days,” she explained.

The Epimed system allows every employee of Santa Casa to report an event or incident with the potential to harm patient safety, which has been done at Santa Casa as a habitual practice.

"Receiving, for the third consecutive year, the certification with the Patient Safety Seal demonstrates that our patient safety culture continues to evolve positively and that our professionals feel increasingly secure to notify, address, and implement improvements, highlighting that we work to ensure psychological safety for employees, always in pursuit of improving patient care," reinforces the coordinator of the Quality and Safety Center of Santa Casa, Camila Negrão.

International Certification

Over the past few years, Santa Casa do Pará has been investing in infrastructure, equipment, and training that have ensured improved safety. In August of this year, Santa Casa do Pará achieved the international Qmentum certification at the Platinum level, becoming the second public hospital in Brazil with 100% management of the Unified Health System (SUS) to achieve this recognition. The accreditation attests that the care and management processes of the institution are aligned with international standards of excellence, reinforcing the commitment to patient safety and quality of care.
