Cultural Foundation of Pará promotes storytelling with audio description for visually impaired people
The program is part of the project 'Multiple Visions', which promotes access to activities aimed at the training and inclusion of visually impaired people through courses

On the next 30th, at 4 PM, the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP), through the Arthur Vianna Public Library, will hold a storytelling activity with audio description. In this action, the book 'For My Father, the Boto', by Pará author Geovane Belo, will be used. The mediator will be Patrícia Martins, the creator of the proposal. The program is part of the project 'Multiple Visions', which aims to carry out activities focused on access, training, and inclusion of visually impaired people in various environments, through courses, workshops, lectures, and discussion circles. The storytelling will take place in the Braille section, located on the 2nd floor of the Arthur Vianna Library, at FCP.
The storytelling with audio description is held once a month in the Braille section, where the books are described for visually impaired people, providing details about the book cover and the images that make up the book. After the storytelling, a discussion circle is held with the beneficiaries of the Braille section, exchanging experiences about reading and suggestions for books for the next meeting.
According to the project's creator, Patrícia Martins, an intern in the circulating section, the initiative has surprised by reaching a broader audience, who found in Braille reading a new way to access literature. 'This project brings reading to visually impaired people who do not know how to read in Braille and do not have access to books. This is the main focus of the initiative, which has gained a broader scope, reaching not only visually impaired people but also the elderly and children who benefit from the tactile and sensory experience of Braille reading. When it comes to audio description, people feel curious to learn a little more. This project was a discipline at UFPA (Federal University of Pará), in the library science course, and from it, this initiative at the Arthur Vianna library has been strengthened,' she said.
