National Conference on LGBTQIA+ Rights continues until Friday

Pará is participating in the 4th National Conference on LGBTQIA+ Rights, held in Brasília (DF), from October 21 to 24. With the theme "Building the National Policy on LGBTQIA+ Rights", the event seeks guidelines for the implementation of public policies aimed at promoting human rights and citizenship for the LGBTQIA+ population in the country.

The state has 43 delegates at the event, including representatives from civil society and public authorities, contributing proposals aimed at creating the National Plan for the Promotion of Human Rights and Citizenship for LGBTQIA+ People. The delegates were elected during the state stage, held in June, by the Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Racial Equality and Human Rights (Seirdh), along with the State Council for Sexual Diversity (Ceds).

Gabriela Brito Ferreira, Director of Human Rights at Seirdh

According to the Director of Human Rights at Seirdh, Gabriela Brito Ferreira, the event is a strategic space to define actions aimed at the LGBTQIA+ community for the coming years. "The National Conference provides this space for us to discuss the next four years of public policies directed at LGBTQIA+ people. With this direction, we, from the state of Pará, especially from the Secretariat of Racial Equality and Human Rights, can outline the paths we will follow and build new ways to guarantee rights for this population," she emphasized.

Axes - In addition to advocating for proposals, delegates participate in dialogue tables, thematic working groups, and parallel articulations to strengthen civil society initiatives. This year, four guiding axes are part of the program: Combating LGBTQIA+ violence; Dignified work and income generation for the LGBTQIA+ population; Intersectionality and internationalization; and Institutionalization of the National Policy on LGBTQIA+ Rights.

The general coordinator of the Lacigs Collective (Amazonian Struggle for Comprehensive Care in Gender and Sexuality), Ubiratan Júnior, who is part of the Pará delegation, highlighted that the meeting is essential for strengthening public policies. "I believe this is a historic milestone for the construction of a policy that proposes a resurgence of the LGBT+ movement, building the policy in a decisive and active way. This is also a governmental commitment, but it came through a lot of struggle," he stated.

Ubiratan Júnior: a moment to boost questions

Ubiratan Júnior also reinforced that the Conference plays an essential role in continuing the struggles and advancing debates in defense of rights. "This Conference has a very important role so that we can continue the struggles that have already been fought and boost many other questions, many other debates that are fundamental for us to fight for citizenship and human rights for the LGBT+ population of our state, our municipality, and our country," he emphasized.

The 4th National Conference on LGBTQIA+ Rights continues until Friday (24), with a space for listening and debating public policies for the LGBTQIA+ population. The Pará delegation ensures that local demands are included in these debates and contribute to strengthening national policies for promoting equality and human rights.
