Caetés Regional Hospital conducts second organ donation in 2025, with support from Sespa
The liver donation was coordinated by the Intra-Hospital Commission for Organ and Tissue Donation for Transplants
Caetés Regional Hospital (HRPC), located in Capanema, a municipality in northeastern Pará, which is a reference for medium and high complexity in the region, conducted its second organ donation this year. The action, coordinated by the State Transplant Center of the State Department of Public Health (CET/Sespa), involved the donation of a liver.
The multidisciplinary team worked together to ensure the success of the procedure, coordinated by the Intra-Hospital Commission for Organ and Tissue Donation for Transplants (CIHDOTT).

Family members of the donor showed generosity with the donation, transforming the loss of a relative into hope for another family. The Hospital reaffirms its commitment to life, humanization, and excellence in care, following strict technical and ethical protocols.
Transparency and safety – For the Assistant Manager of HRPC, Eduardo Machado, this moment is once again one of gratitude and significance. “We are conducting the second organ donation in the Caetés Region, with the donation of a liver, respecting life and once again transforming a moment of pain into hope for others,” said the manager.
He also emphasized that the management of the Caetés Hospital Complex ensured that all medical, ethical, and legal protocols were strictly followed, guaranteeing the quality and viability of the organ, as well as transparency and safety throughout the process. “I thank and congratulate the CIHDOTT team, which conducted each step with agility and efficiency, in partnership with CET/Sespa, whose actions have been essential for strengthening donation and procurement practices in our region,” highlighted Eduardo Machado, emphasizing the importance of Sespa's support for the success of the donation.

Nurse Elivaldo Júnior, a member of the Nursing Ethics Committee and representative of CIHDOTT, highlighted the integrated work and the impact of the donation. “Each donation is a technical and human challenge. Today, with the removal of a liver, we felt the importance of each planned action: from the confirmation of brain death to the delivery of the organ to the transplant team. It is gratifying to see how the dedication of all the professionals involved transforms a delicate situation into an opportunity to save lives. This collective commitment demonstrates that, at HRPC, care and ethics go hand in hand,” said the nurse.
Procedures for donation – When brain death is confirmed, the State Transplant Center is notified and provides the necessary support, with materials and a team of specialized professionals to carry out the organ procurement. For the process to take place, it is essential that the family authorizes the donation, which requires a sensitization process.
The team responsible for the procurement included surgeon Mariana Pereira Maurity and nurse Tatiane Lobato da Silva, who traveled to Capanema for the procedure.
Caetés Public Regional Hospital conducted its first organ donation on August 11 - a liver and two kidneys. The action was coordinated by the State Transplant Center.
Service: The Caetés Hospital Complex is part of the state health network of the Government of Pará, through the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), and serves exclusively through the Unified Health System (SUS). The unit is located on Avenida Barão de Capanema, in the Centro neighborhood, in Capanema. More information can be obtained by phone at (91) 3122-7391.
