The Government of the State of Pará has taken another important step towards increasing the air network, transforming the Belém International Airport into an international hub, and expanding Pará's connectivity with over 30 destinations across South America, Central America, North America, and Europe. This Tuesday (28), Belém launched the unprecedented and direct route to Bogotá, Colombia, with three weekly flights operated by Avianca, using Airbus A320 aircraft, which have a capacity of up to 180 passengers, representing a total offer of over 1,000 seats per week.

With an average duration of just 4h30, flights depart from Bogotá at 11:05 PM (local time) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from El Dorado airport, considered one of the most important in Latin America, which recorded over 45.8 million passengers in 2024. The expected arrivals in Belém are at 5:40 AM the following day. In the opposite direction, departures occur on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 8:50 AM, arriving in the Colombian capital at 11:15 AM (local time).

According to Lucas Vieira, deputy secretary of the State Tourism Secretariat (Setur), the State Government has been working hard to bring new flights and consolidate Pará as the gateway to the Amazon. “This new flight adds to the efforts already being made. It is more than just a Belém-Bogotá flight; from there we will have connections to other countries, allowing us to bring and attract more visitors to our region, generate jobs, and boost the economy. Remember that tourism is a green economy and one that we believe is the future, which can be a foundation of our economy. I thank all our partners and hope we can expand even further, achieve new destinations, and build a better future for the State of Pará,” the secretary evaluated.

The sales manager for Avianca in Brazil, Mariana Ferrari, stated that Belém is experiencing a historic moment. “Our first flight is to Bogotá. And from Bogotá, with connections to 25 countries and over 80 destinations. We are helping the North of Brazil connect with Latin America and the world. It is a tremendous satisfaction to be here today. We often say that when a plane takes off or lands, development is also taking off and landing - not just tourism, but also commerce and the integration of a Brazil, a country, a continent that is closer together,” she said.

The boarding for Bogotá today included 111 passengers. Among them was businessman Jailson Fernandes, who works in accounting, business management, and customer experience, along with his wife Eva. “Our expectations are very good because in addition to Bogotá, we will go to Medellín and other cities around to get to know them and also fit into what I work on, the expertise of customer experience. We made a 7-day itinerary and want to see how Medellín has transformed into a safe city; we will also visit museums, tourist spots in the cities, and in Bogotá, we want to see the famous Salt Cathedral, an underground sanctuary built about 200 meters deep,” he commented.

For the CEO of Norte da Amazônia Airports (NOA), Marco Antônio Migliorini, Belém is experiencing a conjunction of positive factors, a synergy between federal and state governments that is leading the capital to take off more and more. “This new flight is more than just a new destination; it is a door that opens to the world. From the partnership with Avianca, which believed in this project, we see the reflection of all this investment with a more modern airport, which will promote a much more positive experience for our users. Today we have another entry point and another exit point for development. This is already a significant step we are taking. NOA bets heavily on Belém, bets heavily on Pará, and bets on the potential of the North of the country,” the CEO pointed out.

Jailson and his wife Eva will get to know Colombia

With a focus on the international promotion of tourism, for Embratur, connecting the North region with Colombia is very important for Brazil and for the development of the Amazon. "We are very happy to inaugurate another flight here in Belém. Recently, Embratur, along with tourism organizations, launched the Brasis Plan, which finds a way to promote each federation unit, and with this plan, we hope to take Belém not only to the Americas but also to Europe and the entire world. We want to show that we do not only live in Brazil with sun and beach; we also live from ceramics, we also live from gastronomy, we also live from river beaches, and that is what we are taking to the world, and with this entry point here in Pará, we are much closer to achieving these results,” pointed out Philipe Karat, coordinator of Modalities at Embratur.
