Government of Pará delivers Complexo da Pedreira, benefiting over 60 thousand people
The project in partnership with the city hall included the creation of new spaces with boxes, all within standard accessibility, hygiene, and safety norms.
The Government of Pará, in partnership with the Municipal City Hall of Belém, delivered the Complexo da Pedreira on the morning of this Tuesday (28). The project in the neighborhood included the creation of new spaces with boxes to meet accessibility, flow, functionality, hygiene, and safety standards for consumers and workers, ensuring comfort and practicality for over 60 thousand people in the capital of Pará.
“Today, the State Government, together with the City Hall of Belém, delivers the Complexo da Pedreira. On Thursday (30), we will take another step by delivering the neighborhood market, advancing towards improving the conditions of the fairs and markets in our capital. With this, we ensure better conditions for those who work and, above all, we honor the residents with an appropriate environment for consumption,” highlighted the Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho.
The Vice Governor of the State, Hana Ghassan, spoke about the importance of the partnership between the state and municipal governments in yet another delivery in the capital. “I want to thank God and also ask Him to bless each vendor in their daily struggle. This is another benefit resulting from unity, from the partnership that builds. May this complex be a reason for prosperity and happiness in everyone's life.”
The mayor, Igor Normando, listed the benefits of the new space for the Pedreira neighborhood, one of the most traditional and populous in Belém. “It was three years of waiting, and in 10 months of our management, we delivered the project with functionality, in this partnership with the State Government. This is a place that will ensure not only better conditions for the vendors but also for the entire population. It will improve urban mobility, as we will remove the temporary market from Avenida Pedro Miranda and allow traffic to flow more smoothly.”
New facility has 236 new boxes
The Complexo da Pedreira features 236 renovated boxes in the food, services, industrial products, fruits and vegetables, flour, grocery, medicinal herbs, and Umbanda articles sectors. Evânio Costa has worked in the space for over 30 years and approved the project.
“It’s great, everything is very beautiful. Organized, clean, especially, and with maintenance up to date. Before it was difficult because the front panels were loose, it rained a lot inside here. Now there’s no rain, no sun, but a wonderful breeze that God gives us,” said the vendor.
Another vendor finding a more dignified space to work is Betânia Almeida. “In the past, we faced difficulties, and now the complex is all good. I thank for this wonderful market they made for us. It’s important, more customers will come. We will continue to take care of the property we received.”
The Complexo da Pedreira is a public facility delivered by the State, through the State Secretariat of Public Works (Seop), in partnership with the city hall of Belém. “The vendors of Pedreira are receiving a more dignified place to work, in an investment that maintains and generates new jobs. The population goes shopping knowing they will find a comfortable and safe environment, ensuring the development of Belém's economy,” explained the Secretary of Public Works, Ruy Cabral.
