The Belém International Airport was delivered expanded and modernized this Saturday, November 1st. At the ceremony, Governor Helder Barbalho accompanied President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The work, completed almost a year ahead of schedule, prepares the terminal for COP30 and for the sustainable growth of tourism and business in Pará.
“Today, we are delivering the expansion of the Belém International Airport, a private investment of over 400 million that allows us to double the capacity of this airport, from 7 million to over 13 million passengers. This is essential because it structures this new vocation of Pará in tourism, starting from the capital of the Amazon. And everyone is arriving for COP30 and strengthening forest tourism here in Belém do Pará,” highlighted Governor Helder Barbalho.
With R$ 450 million invested, the annual capacity increases from 7.7 to about 13 million passengers. The boarding areas have nearly tripled; two new mezzanines speed up inspection and boarding; the lobby has been expanded, air-conditioned, and has gained restrooms and family spaces. Outside, pedestrian and vehicle access has been reorganized for better flow.
In operations, the terminal received five new positions for category C aircraft, runway and taxiway upgrades, modernized lighting and signage, RESAs at all four runways, as well as PAPIs and ALS with LED technology, a package that increases safety and flight regularity.
The infrastructure already translates into more connectivity: Belém–Bogotá route (Avianca), direct flight to Miami (GOL), and reinforcement of domestic routes (LATAM and GOL). During COP30 (November 1 to 23), the projection is to serve about 508,000 passengers on 3,122 flights, almost double the volume of the same period in 2024, with a 57% increase in capacity.
