COP Village is delivered and reinforces accommodation infrastructure for the Climate Conference in Belém
Complex with 405 suites, convenience areas, and services will be transformed into an administrative center after COP30
The Government of Pará delivered, this Monday (3), the COP Village, a space that will host participants of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will be held in Belém from November 10 to 21. Located on Avenida Brigadeiro Protásio, next to the access to the Blue Zone and the Hangar, the project was executed by the State Department of Public Works (Seop) and generated 450 direct jobs, consolidating yet another strategic delivery from the State for the realization of the international event.
“We consider this equipment (COP Village) delivered, which was one of the main challenges set by the United Nations, that we had the obligation (to ensure). And once again meeting the deadlines, we are today opening the doors for the operation of the COP Village to be ready for the arrival of the leaders,” said Governor Helder Barbalho.
With an area of 19 thousand square meters, the COP Village consists of six blocks, five of which are designated for accommodation and one for services. The residential blocks contain 405 equipped and modern suites. The support block includes a lobby, luggage storage, offices, meeting rooms, a gym, changing rooms, craft and souvenir kiosks, as well as convenience areas, a restaurant, and a café-bar, offering comfort, practicality, and well-being to the accredited guests for the Conference.
“The accommodations are aimed at heads of state and their staffs, who will be able to be located at a strategic point in the city. This location was designed to reconcile the hospitality solution close to the event venue so that there would be no need for the delegations to move, and with that, all the impacts that these movements bring to the city's mobility,” stated the governor.
The hotel furniture was made and assembled by inmates from the Coqueiro Custody and Reintegration Unit (UCRC). The initiative is part of the “Building New Stories” program from the State Department of Penitentiary Administration (Seap) and symbolizes the concrete practice of social reintegration through work.
“The workforce was made up of inmates from the penal system, allowing the policy of resocialization of inmates to be utilized, resulting in a reduction of their sentences,” added the head of the state Executive.
Resulting from a partnership between the Government of Pará and the Federal Government, through Itaipu Binacional, the COP Village is located at a strategic point in the capital, near the Hangar Convention Center of the Amazon and the City Park, which facilitates movement to the Blue Zone, where the main debates of COP30 will take place.
After the Conference, the complex will be transformed into a state administrative center. This measure ensures the full use of the infrastructure and contributes to the modernization of public management, leaving a structural legacy for Belém and Pará.
