Government of Pará delivers Linear Park of Nova Tamandaré and benefits over 100 thousand people
With investments from the State and BNDES, the 1,400-meter-long Park is a gathering space for families and a new tourist attraction in the capital of Pará
A leisure area with 1,400 meters in length, to serve over 100 thousand people, was delivered by Governor Helder Barbalho and Vice Governor Hana Ghassan this Monday (3), in Belém. The Linear Park of Nova Tamandaré represents yet another important legacy of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30). The facility modernizes one of the most significant roads in the capital of Pará, which also received new paving and sewage network.
The Government of Pará also delivered, in the same area, the Tamandaré Hydroviary Terminal, which will ensure more comfort and safety for those crossing to the islands of Belém - such as Combu Island - one of the most sought-after destinations on weekends, and also to the municipality of Barcarena, in the Metropolitan Region.
So that the population could enjoy the sunset, Governor Helder Barbalho chose the end of the afternoon to deliver the Linear Park of Nova Tamandaré, emphasizing that, among the many benefits, the work enhances the value of properties in the area. He toured the Linear Park and the Tamandaré Hydroviary Terminal, reinforcing that these are legacies of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change.
"Bringing COP30 to Belém has accelerated a schedule of works that would take 10, 20 years to happen. In two years we have delivered a set of works to improve Belém," emphasized Helder Barbalho. "When COP ends, we must continue working so that this pace of works does not slow down. Today, we are completing another stage of preparing Belém for this great event," added the governor.
Space for the family - Vice Governor Hana Ghassan highlighted the importance of the Linear Park as a leisure space for families. "We are giving a new face to Belém, delivering a new leisure space. We will be able to bring our children, our parents. It is a space for the whole family," she emphasized.
The Linear Park offers gathering and leisure spaces, with kiosks, bike paths, children's park, interactive fountain, pet park, outdoor gym, amphitheater, and areas for contemplation. The project covers all nine blocks of Avenida Tamandaré, which received planting and transplanting of trees.
New gates were also installed to control the flow of tides and thus reduce the risk of flooding in the area.
The project was executed by the Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Public Works (Seop), in partnership with the Federal Government, through the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). The construction generated 420 direct jobs.
Development - The BNDES advisor, Pedro Iootty, emphasized that the Park improves the city for residents, in addition to being a tourist option for those visiting Belém. "BNDES believed in the project, which will leave a legacy for thousands of people. We are contributing to the development of the region," he reinforced.
For the president of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Pará (Alepa), Deputy Francisco Melo (Chicão), the completion of another structural work shows the Government's commitment to prepare Belém for a global event like COP30. "This was a project that the state government believed in and made happen. I congratulate Governor Helder Barbalho and Vice Governor Hana Ghassan for the initiative. Belém gains new infrastructure and a new tourist spot," he stated.
The mayor of Belém, Igor Normando, highlighted that the set of infrastructure works delivered reaffirms the State's commitment to boost Pará on the world stage and consolidate Belém as the gateway to the Amazon. "Belém has received the largest volume of works and services in history. All of this is because of those who were willing to do more and do differently," he assured.
Hairdresser Érica Matos, 49 years old, who lives on Avenida Tamandaré, approved the pet space of the Linear Park. "We had problems not having a space for leisure with our animals. Now, we have it. We also have kiosks close to home. We will celebrate birthdays here," she said.
Reginaldo Leão has lived near Avenida Tamandaré for 40 years and has adopted the bicycle as his main means of transportation. He was one of the first users of the bike lane of the Linear Park. "We will no longer share the road with cars. Before, we had to transit very close to the road, right next to the cars," said Reginaldo, adding that "I will also play with my dog in the pet space."
