The beginning of the modernization of the Technological Park of the Transamazon Public Regional Hospital (HRPT), in Altamira, southwest of Pará, ensured a real reduction of 30% in electricity consumption. With this, the unit can increase investments in improving other sectors, such as services and maintenance, while taking care of the Planet.

The initiative is one of three projects that the hospital currently operates, and it secured the title Friend of the Environment, with a mention at the 18th edition of the Healthy Hospitals Seminar, last October, at Sírio-Libanês Hospital, in São Paulo.

Roberto Santana, Sustainability Coordinator, represented HRPT. "It was an extremely enriching experience, and having the opportunity to present the modernization of the refrigeration technological park, and the dissemination of good practices in the rational use of energy represents the recognition of our team's collective effort to promote a more sustainable and efficient management of resources.”

The Transamazon Hospital was the only one in the southwest region of Pará to receive the honorable mention. “This representation reinforces the hospital's commitment to align its practices with the sustainability and innovation guidelines of the SUS, contributing to the strengthening of environmental policies in the Amazon,” celebrates Roberto Santana.

At the Hospital, the mission to contain electricity waste is shared with all sectors, through lectures, workshops, and internal campaigns. For the Maintenance Supervisor, Ronald Figueira, the savings reflect in the provision of better service to users, to employees, and allow the hospital to expand its operations as a whole. “When we reduce consumption, we help the environment with renewable energy. Thus, we also help the company that is ahead to hire more services and expand other areas,” he analyzes.

The Transamazon Public Regional Hospital, managed by the Government of Pará, develops the projects in partnership with the Acqua Institute, responsible for the direct administration of the unit. Vitor Valieri, Engineering Coordinator of Acqua, explains that “the idea, since we took over the hospital in Altamira [December 2006], was to have sustainable actions, one of which is green energy, and we have taken some measures to improve.”

The Hospital has the following projects: Echoenergia, with which the hospital won the title Friend of the Environment; Reuse of Parts and Fabrics, in the Sewing sector, for the manufacture of Ecobags (biodegradable bags) and other items that assist various sectors of the hospital; and Medical Bags, for safe dispensing of medications and reduction of plastic bag consumption.
