Rui Meira Gallery in Belém hosts the exhibition "Echoes of Xingu: memory, land, and ancestry"
The exhibition features photographs by artist Walda Marques and reveals the ancestral presence inscribed in bodies, gestures, places, and objects. The exhibition runs from November 12 to 26, always from 10 AM to 5 PM, with free admission.
The Rui Meira Gallery, located at the Casa das Artes in Belém, will host the exhibition "Echoes of Xingu: memory, land, and ancestry" starting November 12, showcasing the strength and traditions of the Juruna and Arara peoples of the Volta Grande do Xingu. The initiative is supported by the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP). The exhibition features photographs by artist Walda Marques and reveals the ancestral presence inscribed in bodies, gestures, places, and objects. The exhibition runs from November 12 to 26, always from 10 AM to 5 PM, with free admission.
Visitors can experience an aesthetic and emotional immersion, where ancestry manifests in visual narratives that express the strength of the women and men of the Juruna and Arara ethnicities, and their vital connections to the territory and the wisdom transmitted by the rivers and the land. Attendees can also visit the profiles of indigenous artists and artisans through QR Codes that will be available next to each artwork. This initiative strengthens the visibility and creative economy of these communities.
The project "Echoes of Xingu: memory, land, and ancestry" has had a direct impact on the revitalization of indigenous languages, the artisanal production of beads and graphics specific to the ethnicities, and the creation of products aimed at insertion into the national and international markets, involving the Paquiçamba, Mïratu, Pupekuri, Jaguar, Iya-Pukaka, Lakariká, Boa Vista (Juruna ethnicity), Guary Duan, Itkoun, Terrawangã, and Maricá (Arara ethnicity) villages.
The exhibition reaffirms the vital strength of the peoples who inhabit it and the urgency of listening to their knowledge, their voices, and their rivers, now more than ever under the world's gaze.
In addition to the exhibition at the Rui Meira Gallery, the "Echoes of Xingu: memory, land, and ancestry" exhibition will also be on display at the City Park, in the Green Zone, an open space for public visits during COP30, from November 10 to 21, from 9 AM to 8 PM, with free admission.
