Government of Pará presents Porto Futuro Complex to leader of the Development Bank of Latin America
Visit reinforces partnership between the State and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean in building a sustainable Amazon
The Government of Pará presented to the executive president of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), Sérgio Díaz-Granados, two important facilities that are part of the legacy of COP30 to Belém: the Museum of the Amazons and the Bioeconomy and Innovation Park of the Amazon.
The agenda, which took place this Wednesday (5), is part of the preparatory actions for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will occur from November 10 to 21, and reinforces Pará's role in building a joint agenda focused on sustainable development, with innovation, culture, and appreciation of Amazonian knowledge.
Initial support - The Museum of the Amazons, delivered by the state government in partnership with national and international institutions, received initial support from CAF for the development of the executive project, a fundamental stage to enable the design and planning of the space.
“CAF played a very important role in the birth of the Museum of the Amazons. It was this initial funding that enabled the development of the executive project, which initiated the listening, design, and implementation of the Museum. Today, we can finally welcome the president of CAF, Sérgio Díaz-Granados. It is a joy to be able to thank and show how the dream we dreamed together, more than a year ago, has materialized into a beautiful Museum, a public dissemination facility that combines science, education, and immersion, and fulfills a fundamental pedagogical role,” highlighted Ursula Vidal, State Secretary of Culture.
The head of Secult emphasized that CAF's support extends to facilitating the presence of international delegations in Belém during COP30, demonstrating the reach of this partnership.
Understanding knowledge - During the visit, the president of the Bank highlighted the importance of the investments from the Government of Pará and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to sustainability and human development in the Amazon region. “We are starting the COP30 agenda in Belém, in the heart of the Amazon. Our commitment is to finance the recovery of the Amazonian forests and support the communities living in this region, over 50 million people. The Museum of the Amazons is a great bet for cultural transformation and for better understanding the knowledge of the Amazon,” said Sérgio Díaz-Granados.
“This interactive museum will allow people of all ages to understand the dimension of the Amazon, and it will be a window to the world. CAF is proud to have participated, from the beginning, in this project led by the Government of Pará,” he added.
Reference - After the visit to the Museum, the delegation visited the Bioeconomy and Innovation Park of the Amazon, a facility delivered by the Government, through the State Secretariat for Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas). The space brings together research centers, startups, entrepreneurs, and traditional communities around sustainable solutions and technological innovation.
The director of Bioeconomy at Semas, Iara Menezes, explained that the presence of the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean reinforces Pará's role as an example of environmental governance and international articulation.
“Having the president of the Bank here, physically, getting to know the Park and hearing about what the State has already built over three years of implementing the State Bioeconomy Plan (PlanBio), shows that we have concrete results and a very clear vision for the future. COP30 is opening doors and strengthening these connections,” said Iara Menezes.
The deputy secretary of Bioeconomy at Semas, Camille Bemerguy, emphasized the Park as a milestone of the Government of Pará's commitment to the transition to a green and inclusive economy. “The Bioeconomy Park symbolizes this new time for the Amazon, where science, technology, and local knowledge come together to generate sustainable solutions. The presence of CAF and other international partners reinforces the transformative potential of these initiatives and Pará's decisive role in the transition to a green and inclusive economy,” she emphasized.
