Amazon in Focus: Pará Opens COP 30 and Shows the World That the Future Begins in the Forest
With the largest climate event on the planet hosted in Belém, the Government of Pará presents a vibrant, productive, and innovative Amazon that transforms biodiversity into sustainable development
At the opening of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Belém, Governor Helder Barbalho highlighted Pará's role in building global solutions to tackle the climate crisis. He advocated for strengthening climate financing, advancing the carbon market, and encouraging low-emission development models that generate jobs and income from the living forest.
“This is a central moment for us to build solutions that match humanity's responsibilities in the face of climate urgencies. May this conference, held with the symbolism of the Amazon, engage the world to ensure climate financing, strengthen the carbon market, and consolidate sustainable development models,” stated Helder Barbalho.
Concrete Actions - The Government of Pará arrives at the conference with concrete actions and measurable results in environmental policies and sustainable development. The Amazon Now Plan, the State Bioeconomy Plan, and the REDD+ Jurisdictional System structure a permanent climate governance that already contributes to the consistent reduction of deforestation and stimulates new sustainable production chains.
In Belém, the Bioeconomy and Innovation Park consolidates the integration between scientific research, entrepreneurship, and traditional knowledge, serving as a foundation for the formation of a new ecosystem of green businesses.
In agricultural production, the State is advancing with the Pará Individual Cattle Traceability System (SRBIPA), coordinated by Adepará, which ensures origin, sanitary control, and environmental compliance throughout the production chain. In October 2025, Pará conducted its first export of individually traceable beef, with a shipment of 108 tons to China, positioning Pará's cattle ranching at the forefront of transparency and sustainability.
Also on this Monday (10), the governor participates in the inauguration of the Pará Pavilion in the Green Zone and the launch of the BioAmazonic Technology Valley in the Blue Zone of the conference. The project will bring together public institutions, universities, and private companies to develop innovative solutions and biological base products from Amazonian biodiversity.
Collective Effort - Lieutenant Governor Hana Ghassan highlighted the collective effort that made it possible to hold the conference in Belém.
“Today officially marks the start of COP 30, and our hearts are filled with gratitude. It has been months of hard work, dedication, and unity to get here. I thank the Federal Government, partner institutions, the City Hall of Belém, every public servant, and the people of Pará, who understood the importance of seizing this historic moment. May this conference be a stage for concrete solutions for a fairer, greener, and more sustainable planet.”
During the opening ceremony, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva thanked the efforts of the people of Pará and emphasized the symbolism of holding the conference in the heart of the forest.
“You will participate in an event in a State that has a wonderful, joyful, and educated people, who will take care of you like you have never been cared for before. Take advantage of the city, the joy, the beauty, and the cuisine of Pará,” said the president.
With consolidated climate governance and long-term public policies, Pará presents itself to the international community as one of the world's main laboratories for sustainable development — reaffirming, at the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, that the Amazon is an essential part of the solution for the future of the planet.
