The Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará – Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá, performed 8,790 surgeries and surgical procedures from January to October, a growth of 15% compared to the same period in 2024, when 7,643 were performed. Behind the numbers are stories of recovery, dedication from the teams, and the unit's daily commitment to restoring quality of life to patients.

Among these stories of overcoming is that of the cowboy Raimundo Carvalho, 47, a resident of Brejo Grande do Araguaia, in the Carajás region. He underwent surgeries on his spine after falling from a horse and received full support from the hospital team during his recovery. "It is a joy to return home after so many days hospitalized. I went through moments of pain and uncertainty, but I found here a team that welcomed me like family and never let me lose hope," he said, emotional, after being discharged.

Just like Raimundo, Elizabete Fernandes Pereira, 47, a resident of Eldorado do Carajás, in the Carajás region, also found the care she needed at the Regional Hospital. Referred for an oncological surgery on her breast, she received specialized treatment and close support near her home. "I was very well welcomed from the beginning. Having this care close by made all the difference, bringing more tranquility and hope for me and my family," she stated, emotional.

The unit of the government of Pará offers various surgical procedures in the areas of trauma, orthopedics, neurosurgery, pediatric, oncological, gastrointestinal, and general surgery, as well as vascular, reconstructive plastic, bucomaxillofacial, obstetric, ophthalmological, otorhinolaryngological, urological, oncological surgeries, among others.

The surgical center of the government of Pará's unit features modern rooms equipped with cutting-edge technology, as well as a post-anesthesia room for patients during the recovery period. The unit performs medium and high complexity surgeries, including elective, urgent, and emergency procedures, and has a multidisciplinary team.

Nurse Delyo Alves, responsible for the sector, emphasizes that the increase in the number of surgeries reflects the commitment of the teams and the strengthening of the structure. "This growth is the result of continuous work to improve processes, optimize resources, and ensure that each patient receives safe and humanized care. Our focus is always to provide the best possible care, with agility and quality," he stated.

The hospital also has a modern hemodynamics sector, where minimally invasive procedures and surgeries are performed, such as catheterization, angioplasties, and cerebral embolization. These advancements allow for precise diagnoses, high complexity treatment with shorter hospitalization times, and faster recovery for patients.

Care at the Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará is fully funded by the Unified Health System (SUS). The unit has 135 beds, including 97 for clinical hospitalization and 38 in Intensive Care Units (ICU) - Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal.
