On the first day of the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), Pará took a significant step to strengthen the bioeconomy in the Amazon. At an event held at the Pará Pavilion in the Green Zone at the City Park, the Bank of the State of Pará (Banpará) and the Amazon Foundation for Support of Studies and Research (Fapespa) established a partnership aimed at promoting innovation, science, and sustainable financing.

The agreement aims to support projects that transform Amazonian biodiversity into sustainable economic opportunities, uniting public financing, scientific research, and green entrepreneurship. The initiative reinforces Pará's leadership in building a development model that values standing forests and local populations.

Integration - Fapespa will be responsible for articulating technical and scientific support for the initiatives covered, stimulating integration between universities, startups, laboratories, and local communities. According to the Vice President and Scientific Director of the Foundation, Deyvison Medrado, the goal is to transform the knowledge produced in the region into concrete solutions that generate positive social and environmental impact.

“Initially, our goal is to provide non-repayable funding so that they can cover this development project, advancing and growing their company, and in the second moment, access other benefits that Banpará intends to offer, which is microcredit, so that the company has economic and financial sustainability, and thus continue its development path without needing to depend on a long period of non-repayable funding,” explained Deyvison Medrado.

According to the Vice President of Fapespa, the institution seeks to support companies with the concept of the triple helix, whereby they seek partnerships with universities, developing technologies and advancing in production and structure, but based on scientific and technological foundations.

Science and technology - “Today, we do not know all of the Amazon, and with scientific and technological basis, knowledge built in science, we can catalog and map more quickly and efficiently, thus ensuring that we know exactly what kind of products we are making, and how we can achieve productivity,” said Deyvison Medrado about how to build a standing forest without harming the environment and local communities.

“Fapespa is a foundation that promotes the appreciation of the environment, and Banpará, from now on, will use Fapespa's scientific knowledge and the financial support of the State Bank,” explained Ruth Mello, president of Banpará, about the goal of the partnership.

Call for Proposals - Regarding the post-launch programming, projects, startups, or companies interested in receiving financial support, Ruth Mello informed that they should follow the social media of Banpará and Fapespa, where the call for proposals with selection criteria will be published. “It is to promote the economy based on social responsibility and environmental sustainability. The policy, mainly, is focused on sustainability with responsibility,” she added.

The partnership was announced amid a special program at the Pará Pavilion, highlighting experiences of innovation, sustainability, and public governance during COP30. The event reinforced the role of the Amazon as a global center for climate solutions and knowledge about sustainable development.
