‘A Night at the Museum’ has new participants such as the Museum of the Amazons and the Caixa Cultural Belém, at Porto Futuro

After successful seasons in 2023 and 2024, the project “A Night at the Museum” is back. Promoted by the Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Culture (Secult), the initiative resumes the night visitation circuit in museums and memorials of the State, this time with new participating spaces. This Friday (14), the public will be able to relive the experience of exploring Pará's art and history on a night tour, with all spaces open until 10 PM and free entry.

This edition takes place during the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30). The program gains even more significance by reaffirming culture as an essential part of the sustainability agenda and the appreciation of urban Amazonia.

Among the new participants are the Museum of the Amazons and the Caixa Cultural Belém, both in the Porto Futuro Complex. The circuit also includes the Cultural Center Banco da Amazônia (BASA), the Cultural Center Bienal das Amazônias, the Historical and Geographical Institute of Pará (IHGP), and the Museum of the Federal University of Pará and the Art Gallery (GAU) of UFPA, in the Mercedários Complex.

At the Cultural Space Casa das Onze Janelas, visitors can see the Casa Vozes dos Oceanos — a project by the Schurmann family —, the exhibition “From River to Sea”, by photographer Luiz Braga, and the AquaPraça, a floating square installed in the Guajará Bay. The outdoor area of the Forte do Presépio and the Guaimiaba Room, at the Fort Museum, present an archaeological collection of indigenous peoples. The Museum of Sacred Art exhibits the photographic exhibitions “Climate Elders” and “Paths to Belém: the love that flows with water”.

At the Círio Museum, the exhibition “Círio: Festival in Motion” brings together artifacts from the religious and profane celebration. The Museum of the State of Pará (MEP) displays the exhibitions “The Swiss-Brazilian Legacy in the Amazon – Art, Science, and Sustainability” and “Have You Ever Heard the Earth?”, curated by indigenous leader and writer Ailton Krenak. At the Museum of Image and Sound (MIS), the exhibition “Claudia Andujar – Cosmovision” is set up for the first time outside São Paulo. The Cultural Center Palacete Faciola and the Soledade Cemetery Park will also be open, expanding the visitation route.

The State Secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal, emphasizes that the project was born as an initiative to enhance enjoyment and democratize access to museums, winning over the public since the first edition. “In the first edition, more than 20,000 people visited our museum facilities in a single night. An absolute success. Since then, we have received numerous requests for the project to return, and it is very symbolic that this return happens now, amid the COP30, when Belém asserts itself as a global showcase of culture and sustainability,” she states.

She highlights that the initiative consolidates culture as a fundamental part of the urban and cultural experience. “The initiative reaffirms culture as an essential dimension of life in the Amazon, promoting access, belonging, and pride in living in a city that values its history, its art, and its memories,” adds Ursula Vidal.

‘A Night at the Museum’ is an invitation to experience the city. It is a project that brings the public closer to our memory spaces and celebrates this diverse and creative Amazon, which reveals itself in each exhibition, and art provides us with all these multiple experiences. We are waiting for everyone in our museums,” invites the head of Secult.
