Guamá Foundation, representative of PCT Guamá, signs agreement with the Institute for Digital Economy and Artificial Systems (Ideas)

The commitment provides for the development of strategic projects in the ecosystem of the Guamá Science and Technology Park (PCT), focusing on initiatives such as education and training in artificial intelligence, green hydrogen, green fertilizers, biofuels, electric mobility, and low-carbon industrial solutions. The agreement was signed on Tuesday (11) by the Institute for Digital Economy and Artificial Systems (Ideas) and the Guamá Foundation, the institution that manages the complex, during the Tech Zone programming, an event held in the park during COP 30.

Ruslan Proklov, Deputy Vice-Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University and a member of IDEAS, emphasized the importance of cooperation with the innovation environment in Pará. “The scientific and technological park here in Pará plays a very strong role. The Amazon region has the potential for world-class research and innovation; this is a unique area for conducting research, developing new and sustainable technologies, and carrying out projects. It is a world heritage of natural wealth, and we also want to be part of this heritage.”

The purpose is to bring PCT Guamá closer to the innovation ecosystem in China, promoting knowledge exchange and the development of startups in the Chinese ecosystem in the areas of digital economy, artificial intelligence, and sustainable innovation. “PCT will expand its international cooperation hub within partnerships with the institute through joint calls for startups that intend to access the Chinese ecosystem, so we will enter this design, combining their expertise in large-scale markets and technology transfer. This already consolidated model will be replicated for our ecosystem, with PCT being the main partner hub in the Amazon region. We are focused on practical actions, and starting in February, we will begin discussing integrated calls for the selection of the first startup that will be incubated at IDEAS in China,” explained João Weyl, president of the Guamá Foundation.

The partnership represents an important advancement to strengthen international ties in research, innovation, and business development, connecting the Amazon and the rest of Brazil to the new global technological dynamics promoted within the BRICS framework, a cooperation group formed by countries that have become prominent emerging economies on the world stage.

Partnership for Sustainable Development
Ideas will be responsible for developing work plans, defining the joint actions to be implemented. The first plan should be presented within 30 days and will outline the goals, the obligations of each institution, and the resources needed for the execution of activities.

The main focus is to create innovative solutions that stimulate the energy transition and the green economy, strengthening the innovation ecosystem of the Amazon. The cooperation actions may encompass proposed initiatives according to the interest and feasibility of the institutions.

For example, sustainable energy, with the development of innovative products and services; Technology transfer and know-how between partners; Applied research and industrial innovation focusing on low carbon; Human capital formation through education and training programs in artificial intelligence and digital economy; Organization and participation in scientific, cultural, and academic events; Collaborative research and development (R&D) projects on mutually interesting topics are priority areas of work.

Commitment to Innovation
The expectation is that cooperation will drive the creation of sustainable solutions, favor knowledge transfer, and strengthen new green business opportunities in the Amazon and other regions of Brazil.

The signed partnership will have an initial duration of two years and reinforces the commitment of the institutions to technological innovation, sustainable development, and international cooperation. With PCT Guamá as a reference environment, the agreement opens new possibilities for creating solutions such as business models aligned with a low-carbon economy.

Ideas is based at the China-BRICS Science and Innovation Incubation Park in Xiamen, China, with a particular focus on development and integration among BRICS countries and partners. “Brazil has many projects in the areas of science, education, and innovation, just like Russia and China. China has become Brazil's main trading partner, and we want to expand this, also strengthening cooperation in the area of innovation. We want to develop some projects that include several BRICS countries, specifically Brazil, Russia, and China, and in this context, promote significant advances in sustainable innovation,” added Ruslan Proklov.
