Government of Pará invests over R$ 7 million in historical restoration and improvements at Santa Casa
Investments strengthen assistance services and rescue the century-old heritage of the institution, highlighting the delivery of a high-tech magnetic resonance imaging machine.
The Government of Pará delivered, this Thursday (13), a set of works and equipment that enhance the quality of health assistance and preserve the history of the Fundação Santa Casa de Misericórdia do Pará, in Belém. With an investment of over R$ 7.4 million, the interventions included the restoration of the chapel and museum of the institution, renovation of the medical archive, delivery of the São Roque ward and the Bem Viver Space, as well as the installation of a new state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging machine.
The improvements were delivered in a ceremony attended by the State's Vice Governor, Hana Ghassan, and representatives from the three levels of government.
Chapel restored after 35 years closed
Built in the late 19th century, the chapel of Santa Casa had been closed since 1993 and was completely restored with an investment of R$ 3,558,508.33. The space, with 375 square meters and capacity for 80 people, houses an important sacred collection from the 19th and 20th centuries and has internal and external access, serving both the internal public and the community.
According to engineer Marcelo Frota from the Fundação Santa Casa, the work included the replacement of the roof with thermal-acoustic tiles, restoration of the stucco ceiling with medallions, hydraulic tile flooring according to the original layout, marbled walls, altars with marble bases, and complete restoration of the sacred art pieces. "The chapel received new benches with appropriate ergonomics and a ducted air conditioning system," he detailed.
Museum rescues the history of medicine in the Amazon
The Alípio Bordalo Museum, founded in 1987, was also revitalized, remaining in the same historical space of the old pharmacy of Santa Casa. With a restored area of 116 square meters and capacity for 60 visitors, the site received an investment of R$ 1,325,730.63.
Among the improvements are the replacement of the roof, recovery of the ceiling and the solid wood frames, renewed electrical installations, and restoration of the original hydraulic tile flooring. "We maintained the marks of time on the restored pieces as part of the historical value," explained Marcelo Frota.
Modernized medical archive and inclusive ward
The Medical Archive of Santa Casa, which holds over 800,000 records since 1904, underwent its first major renovation, with an investment of R$ 205,687.50. The space was modernized with new paint and electrical system, preserving the historical collection of the institution.
In the assistance area, the São Roque ward was delivered with a capacity for 20 beds, 10 of which will be available as backup during COP30. The space, which received an investment of R$ 226,277.50, will be adapted in the future as an inclusive ward.
State-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging expands service
A new magnetic resonance imaging machine with 1.5 Tesla technology was installed at Santa Casa, capable of performing between 500 and 700 exams per month. The equipment offers high-definition images with shorter examination times and more comfort for the patient, allowing detailed diagnoses of various body regions, such as the brain, joints, breasts, and cardiovascular system.
Well-being of employees: new social space
The new Bem Viver Space, delivered in the centennial area of Santa Casa, was designed to promote physical and mental health for the institution's workers. With an investment of R$ 2,105,225.74, the location has 675 square meters, including a gym with exercise equipment, a game room, a social square with malocas, adapted benches, and a large green area around a symbolic jambeiro tree.
During the ceremony, the president of the Fundação Santa Casa, Bruno Carmona, highlighted the importance of the deliveries both in assistance and in valuing the history of the institution.
“Santa Casa delivers today history, care, and knowledge. A new magnetic resonance imaging machine to expand service to the population, the São Roque ward as backup for COP30, the Museum that rescues our trajectory, the chapel restored after 35 years, and the Santa Gente Space, aimed at our employees,” he declared.
Vice Governor Hana Ghassan reinforced the Government of Pará's commitment to quality public health. “We invest every day in building new hospitals, expanding beds, and improving care. And you, from Santa Casa, are a reference in this purpose. Maintaining excellence every day is a challenge, but you do it with greatness,” she stated.
As a form of gratitude, the vice governor received a plaque with the Qmentum Platinum Seal, awarded to Santa Casa in August of this year. The international certification recognizes standards of excellence in management and patient safety, reaffirming the institution's commitment to quality care for the population.
