The Usinas da Paz project, which has transformed the reality of various communities in Pará, continues to gain national prominence. This Friday (14), the mayor of Porto Alegre, the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Sebastião Melo, visited the Usina da Paz in the Guamá neighborhood of Belém, where he learned about the actions that have made the initiative of the Government of the State of Pará a reference in public policies aimed at citizenship, security, social inclusion, and the provision of essential services.

The delegation from Rio Grande do Sul toured various spaces of the Usina, closely observing the structure of the citizenship complexes and the initiatives in the areas of education, culture, sports, technology, social assistance, leisure, and community security. The interest of the municipality of Porto Alegre is to implement a project inspired by the Pará model, adapting it to the local reality.

“We are implementing a similar project in Porto Alegre, and when I came to Belém, I made a point of visiting the Usina da Paz, a place of knowledge, entrepreneurship, and care for social issues. We see that Brazil has a way, but this involves improving education and taking care of the peripheries. I am very grateful for the hospitality. It is very good to compare Brazil with Brazil and see what is best. This is a project that has worked in Pará and that we can adapt,” declared the mayor of the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Sebastião Melo.

The visit marks another step in the expansion of the influence of the Pará project, which has already received delegations from various states and countries interested in learning about and replicating its practices. For the management of the Usinas da Paz, the exchange between governments strengthens the dissemination of innovative public policies and reinforces Pará's commitment to being a national reference in social transformation, as stated by the Secretary of Citizenship Articulation of Pará, Elieth Braga.

“It is very gratifying to see managers from other regions of Brazil looking at our model as an inspiration for public policies on citizenship, inclusion, and social development. The Usinas da Paz show that when the state is present in an integrated and humane way, the community responds with participation, hope, and new opportunities. We are happy to share this experience and believe that initiatives like this can flourish throughout the country,” declared the manager.

Usinas da Paz – The Usinas da Paz are citizenship complexes implemented by the Government of Pará with the aim of promoting social inclusion, reducing violence, and improving the quality of life of the population in vulnerable areas.

The project is part of the Territories for Peace Program (TerPaz), initiated in 2019, and since October 2021, when the first Usina was inaugurated, it has already ensured more than 10.9 million services in various regions of the state, with over 70 types of free services offered in areas such as health, education, sports and leisure, professional training, arts and culture, digital inclusion, as well as activities focused on sustainability and entrepreneurship.

Currently, 18 Usinas da Paz are in operation, five of which are in the capital (Jurunas/Condor, Guamá, Terra Firme, Bengui, and Cabanagem) and another thirteen in municipalities in the Metropolitan Region of Belém and the interior: Ananindeua, Marituba, Benevides, Castanhal, Capanema, Moju, Bragança, São Miguel do Guamá, Abaetetuba, Tucuruí, Marabá, Parauapebas, and Canaã dos Carajás. Another 19 units are under construction and will soon be delivered to communities in various regions of Pará.
