The Regulatory and Control Agency for Public Services of the State of Pará (Arcon) was present at the discussions of COP30 this Friday (14), in Belém, during the panel "Cities in Motion: Financing the Future of Mobility - Clean, Green and Sustainable". Invited by Caixa Econômica Federal, representatives from the Dom Cabral Foundation and the Ministry of Cities also participated.

Arcon shared the experience of the Metropolitan BRT system, which has a fleet of 40 electric vehicles and 225 Euro 6 models, which emit 15 times less pollutants than conventional buses. "The BRT was chosen as an urban mobility solution within the Metropolitan Region of Belém and, throughout the bidding process and specifications, electric and less polluting vehicles were an adjustment considering sustainability," explained Arcon's Director of Financial and Tariff Control, Cláudio Conde, who presented the panel.

In a gradual implementation phase, the Metropolitan BRT connects the capital Belém to the municipalities of Ananindeua, Marituba, Benevides, Santa Bárbara, Santa Izabel, and Castanhal, allowing passengers to pay a single fare. The assisted operation began on November 1st and has already recorded the transport of more than 30,000 users.

Electric vehicles

The buses of the Metropolitan BRT were acquired through an investment of R$ 386 million from the state government, of which R$ 367 million were financed by Caixa Econômica Federal, through the Pró-Transporte FGTS Program of the Ministry of Cities.

The Director of Urban Mobility of the Ministry of Cities, Marcos Daniel, highlighted the complexity of the Metropolitan BRT and the importance of joint involvement of public agents. "This is the implementation of a social agenda; we are offering better living conditions in the Metropolitan Region. It is also an environmental agenda, as it contributes to the reduction of emissions. When we talk about the transport system, with quality, with time, with infrastructure, buses with air conditioning, with predictability, it is also inviting the population to use public collective transport instead of private transport," pointed out the director.

Arcon at COP30

The General Director of Arcon, Eduardo Ribeiro, was present at the program and also highlighted other areas of action of the Agency during COP30. "The panel was an exhibition of the introduction of electromobility in Pará, through the Metropolitan BRT system. It is an opportunity to showcase all the efforts of the state government and to demonstrate this legacy of COP regarding the BRT, concerning both the introduction of the electric bus and the acquisition of the other vehicles in the entire fleet by the state," commented the director.

Some of the vehicles are involved in the operation of the COP mobility program, in addition to the leased fleet. "We participated in the planning of this operation and are also monitoring other activities such as in the sanitation area, which has a new concession contract regulated by Arcon," added Eduardo Ribeiro.
