This Saturday's programming, the 15th, at Uepa in the Pará Pavilion, in the Green Zone of COP30, highlights two agendas dedicated to strengthening sustainability and social participation in the Amazon.

The first panel, "The Leadership of Indigenous Peoples in the Sustainable Development Process in the Amazon," coordinated by Joelma Alencar, presents an experience that highlights the importance of the direct involvement of indigenous peoples in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In partnership with the Munduruku people and various institutions, workshops were held to translate the SDGs to strengthen community understanding and action.

"Participating were professors from the University of the State of Pará, from the Indigenous Training Center, such as Professor Antônia Zelina, and Professor Aline Lima, and myself, with support from other colleagues as well. So, with the SDGs translated and the Munduruku people having appropriated all this material, we included, which is innovative in this work, SDG-18, which addresses the equality of ethnic-racial relations that includes indigenous peoples," explains Uepa professor Joelma Alencar.

She also points out that the inclusion of SDG-18 in the work allowed for the inclusion "so that indigenous peoples could increasingly be protagonists in this work on sustainable development."

Next, the panel "Amazon in Action: Cooperation, Public Policies, and Education for Sustainability," coordinated by Mayane Bento, discusses how the articulation between universities, social movements, government, and international organizations can generate effective public policies and transformative education for the region. During the activity, the Recommendation Letter from the COP Observatory in the Amazon (OCA) will be presented, which gathers practical actions and guidelines to guide decisions and avoid merely superficial diagnoses.

"The panel discussed cooperation, sustainability, global governance, and above all, public policies for the Amazon. In the midst of this table, we had the participation of a series of partners, such as Professor Fernando Selleri from the University of the State of Mato Grosso, the participation of researchers like Matheus Silveira, and the participation of members of the project itself with Professor Tienay Costa and Professor Matheus Souza," explains Professor Mayane Bento, coordinator of the OCA and mediator of the programming.

For her, this moment was very important, "with a very broad participation from various segments of society that led us to important reflections on how we bring together cooperation, education, and sustainability in the Amazon region."

With these discussions, Uepa reaffirms its commitment to dialogue, research, and the collective construction of pathways for a fairer, more diverse, and sustainable Amazon.
